On the one hand, I’m actually surprised I’ve never needed to install DOSBox before now, but on the other hand, I am very happy I’ve never needed to install DOSBox before now.

I haven’t even been able to get to the startup screen for Dark Forces.  All I get are errors after error, including one error which says that Dark Forces can’t be run in DOS mode!  What the heck?

And I’m not even sure if this is a mistake that I am making, or something like  physical scratch/damage to the CD, or some sort of basic incompatibility.

It’s driving me nuts.
