Not kidding, it totally did take me over 40 years for me to learn to love myself. Thankfully, others have loved me along the way, even when I didn't love, or even like myself very much. As a single mom of 2 seriously amazing and ridiculously intelligent kids (20 and 12), I really don't have time for those who don't like me. I'm far too busy keeping up with my kids and my life to have time to worry if someone likes me or not. Rest assured, I'm NOT paying attention to the haters. It feels so good to be able to say that finally. For so long I tried to make everyone like me. I was a people pleaser, but I was getting lost in what everyone else's opinions of me were. And, believe me, *everyone* has opinions. What I needed to realize, and finally did a few years ago, is that at the end of the day the only people whose opinions of me actually matter is God's and my kids. When I'm good with them, I'm good. Period. I can sleep well at night knowing that they know me and love me in spite of my many flaws. And when I'm doing the right thing by them, the rest of my life tends to fall into place. I do what's right for myself and my family. I run it through the filter of my personal morals, ethics and standards, which are all very high. One should always do the right thing because it's the right thing to do. Sadly, more often than not, the right thing isn't the popular thing. I put what I do up against what God says is right. At the end of the day, His opinion is the one that matters. Not that of this world. Too often people pay more attention to what someone else is doing instead of what they're doing in their own lives.
