Headcanon: Mevolent identifying Valkyrie

In DotL when Mevolent can tell Valkyrie isn't Darquesse by looking into her eyes, he isn't actually using any sensitive abilities. He is simply looking if her pupils are dilated or shrunken. Valkyrie's pupils were shrunken in fear. If it had been Darquesse they would have been dilated in joy. He knew this would have been a game to her, not a life-or-death situation.

So Mevolent figured it out by knowing his enemy and how the human body reacts to fear, and not via the use of magic or any other kind of special ability.
