West Bengal Begins ‘Double Engine’ Era: Ayushman Bharat Cleared in First Cabinet Meeting
A major political and administrative shift has begun in West Bengal as the new government led by Suvendu Adhikari approved several key decisions in its very first cabinet meeting — including the implementation of Ayushman Bharat in the state.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the move and said the people of Bengal will now benefit from one of the world’s largest healthcare schemes, providing affordable treatment and better healthcare access to poor and middle-class families.
The government also approved:
• Land transfer for border fencing to the Border Security Force
• 5-year age relaxation in government jobs
• Implementation of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
• Faster rollout of central schemes like PM Vishwakarma, Ujjwala Yojana, and Fasal Bima Yojana
PM Modi emphasized the importance of a “double engine government,” suggesting stronger coordination between the Centre and the state for faster development and smoother delivery of welfare schemes.
Political analysts see this as a major shift in Bengal’s governance model and a strong message from the BJP government about aligning state policies with central initiatives.
