douglas making a bet with martin when they’re on an overnight stay and hanging around giggling about stuff and they play cards (they probably play go fish or some silly game like that what DORKS)

ANYWAY douglas suggests they bet a kiss and whoever loses, kisses the other

and martin loses obviously because he’s martin

and it gets to the end and douglas starts losing his nerve because he’s had a crush on martin for aaages and he doesn’t want to ruin it and he feels old and coercive and is overcome with nerves and tries to let martin out of it like ‘well, that was a nice game im jUST GOING TO GO BACK TO MY OWN ROOM NOW’

martin waits outside the bathroom door until douglas has been in there for too long to keep pretending that he’s brushing his teeth, and then when douglas comes out he stops him and is like ‘so, er, you don’t want your winnings then?’ and douglas is like SHIT because yes, he does, but not like this, so he just kind of blathers something about how he ‘wouldn’t want to cause martin any discomfort, and it’s really not a big deal, it’s the satisfaction of winning that counts’

and martin’s like ‘well, if you don’t mind, i’m going to play by the rules’

and douglas is desperately trying to keep his cool and airily says ‘if you /like/, martin, then far be it for me to object’

he’s expecting a kiss on the cheek or something quick and professional but martin’s just like WOOOHOOO and stands on tiptoes (SHORT BABY) and gives it all he’s got, and douglas is totally stunned and amazed and confused because why would martin genuinely want to kiss /him/? but then after a while martin stops and goes completely red and starts apologising ‘sorry, sorry, i should have known you didn’t want that, oh god i should have realised you’d never like me back, never mind’ and douglas panickedly explains himself and martin lets out a loud sigh of relief and reassures douglas that he thinks he’s absolutely bloody amazing and always has, and douglas is kind of tearing up by now and he hides his embarrased crying by kissing martin some more

it's really cool that ive got to know people online who i probably wouldn't have got to know irl even if we lived in the same place. because people have different ages and interests and stuff but it's easy online to find points of connection that you might miss entirely even if you knew someone personally

cabin pressure au in which the crew are ghosts

douglas is a traditional ghost from centuries ago, the kind that used to haunt big houses. he was from a rich family and used to wear wigs and study to be a physician and et cetera in life and then he died and became a ghost from sheer lack of being bothered. old houses need hauntings, and who is he to argue? so he watches civilisation progress and glides around for a while, until the manor he was haunting is destroyed and an airfield built in its place. and being a pilot, for him, is amazing! he gets to see new places and people for the first time in centuries, since technically the planes are part of the airfield and so he's never really leaving his haunting place. he's exorcised from air england and spends a painful while as a wandering and suffering spirit until he ends up manifesting at mjn

martin is a restless spirit, who became a ghost through sheer willpower - he died between his sixth and seventh exam attempts and clung on to being desperately in order to be able to fly. and even as a ghost who can float around, it's not enough - he still sits the exam again, and finally gets his license, and rattles around awkwardly. he's not used to being a ghost and he doesn't much like the shrieking sounds and clanking that sometimes happen (if you're in a real hurry to become a ghost, you don't have the time and peace of mind to settle down to it, and being a non-peaceful spirit has its drawbacks) - it's not professional to haunt the passengers!!! the students in parkside terrace are thrilled about the ghost pilot in the attic

arthur is a very cheerful poltergeist. he accidentally frightens mr leeman to death by manifesting through the door of the loo with the fire extinguisher

carolyn is their long-suffering mortal boss who sometimes has to do stuff like summon douglas into the portacabin with complicated rituals because he's LATE FOR WORK AGAIN, or invest in special ghost-proof suitcases for birling day because douglas can glide through walls and into any locked hiding place to get the talisker (he can't even drink it. he says it just lifts his spirits)
