Review NOLA

NOLA is the first album of the band Down, It was released on 19 September 1995. Was written mainly by Phil Anselmo and Pepper Keenan between 1990 and 1995. Recorded at Ultrasonic Studios in New Orleans, was produced by the same Down with Matt Thomas.

Their style is very reminiscent of a cross between the sound of the powerful black sabbath and the southern sound of Lynyrd Skynyrd, all combined with acidic asides that result in long trip. The influences of different components bring elements stoner and sludge, thus making the sound of a Down unique mix. The topics range from hymns to marijuana (Hail The Leaf, Bury Me In Smoke) and intimate subjects such as disappointment and anger (Stone The Crow); the lyrics were all written by Phil Anselmo, with a style reminiscent of what later appeared on the album The Great Southern Trendkill Pantera (1996).

The title is the abbreviation for New Orleans (NO), Louisiana (La).
