🏝️Chapter 6: Islands in the Sun Episode 5: On the Border 🎧▶️📻 Previous (Rock the Boat) - Next (Do or Die)
On their way to find Jeb, Jack and Ji Ho walked along the beach and passed the Docks. Jack: "Hey, let's take a look how much it costs to bring us over to the Fancy Island where your pretty house is. It shouldn't be too much. I thought we could sell some of the precious we found at the Island to pay for the transit - and some food, I'm so hungry."
It really wasn't much and so they went to the stands to offer their collected treasures. Some rare shells and stones. But the Vendor didn't even take a look and just said: "We don't serve your kind here." And then he asked them to leave, very unfriendly at that.
Jack just shook his head and wanted to try at another stand when it dawned on him - the potions! They've lost everything when the plane crashed - their true form must be starting to shimmer through ö.Ö' and the vendor must have noticed! Gods, they had to find Jeb and get to Ji Ho's house immediately, before someone noticed what they really were! Eventually they found Jeb, who didn't move from his perch, his heart still hurting. Why Francine had insisted he should swap his peaceful life brewing potions with this hell of a realm full of pain and misery was beyond him. Jack told Jeb about his hunch about their fading glamour potions. Jeb: "Usually we can last a few days without, when did you have your last one?" Jack: "Uh . . ." Jeb sighed: "Let's go find that house. I had mine before we left - this will give me time to find some herbs and stuff and to figure out how to brew them here." They didn't know about Ji Ho though, and he wouldn't tell them, of course not. He still hadn't said a word, except for when he stopped them from becoming shark food. They still knew nothing about him, not even what he was. Only his name.
They sent Jeb to the docks to buy the tickets, but when he told the man at the counter the address, he told Jeb it wasn't at the Fancy Island but here on the Main Island. Jack was disappointed when Jeb returned and told them. They passed run-down houses and the neighborhoods went even shabbier the further they went. Until - Jack: "This must be it! Oh Ji Ho, why did you leave this place?"
Jeb: "Sorry to disappoint you, it's still a bit further down this road." Jack: "Ouw." Jeb looked at Ji Ho. The closer they came to Ji Ho's house, the slower he followed them - head on his chest, hanging shoulders. Jeb: "Are you ok? Do you need a break?" Jack: "Maybe he remembers something?" Jeb: "If he does, it's nothing good. But we need to get to the house before someone notices what's hidden beneath Jack's glamour. . . Jack, who didn't drink his potion." Jack: "Hey. No one regrets it more than I do, I just can't help it." Jeb sighed again: "I know - I'm sorry."
Jack took Ji Ho by the hand: "It can't be that bad, hm? Don't worry, Jeb and I, we're always at your side, and we are going to protect you - whatever it is." Jack ecouragingly pressed Ji Ho's palm, Ji Ho softly pressed back and followed him.
Eventually they reached the address from the letter. They checked - twice. Just to be thoroughly sure. Jack: "This is . . . " Jeb cleared his throat: "Jack." Jack tried to get himself together to not hurt Ji Ho's feelings: "This . . . isn't as bad as it looks, hm? We'll get this place neat and tidy in no time, you'll see."
It was around midday and slowly getting hotter when Doyun thought it was about time he ended his break.
He called his henchman. Doyun: "Hoi chingu, guess who's back? . . . No. - Ji Ho! . . . Yes, I'll meet the boss later. Come fetch me at the Deserted Island, that imbecile stole my boat . . . Stop laughing, idiot!" Tch. (chingu = friend in Korean)
'The fishing boats go out across the evening water Smuggling guns and arms across the Spanish border The wind whips up the waves so loud The ghost moon sails among the clouds Turns the rifles into silver on the border On my wall the colors of the maps are running From Africa the winds, they talk of changes coming The torches flare up in the night The hand that sets the farms alight has spread the word to those who′re waiting on the border In the village where I grew up nothing seems the same Still you never see the change from day to day No one notices the customs slip away'
