First Night Back || AU
Screaming. Red light blaring five. Groan. Roll over. Stand up. Pad across the hall into the baby's room. Locate Hermes. Pick him up. Calm him down. This had been the drill for the past nine months. Every morning, like clockwork. The only thing different about this morning was that Meg had someone to help her with her screaming child. She wasn't a single mother anymore. Her jailbird lover. It was his first night back, and he was sleeping soundly through the screachings of his son. His dark hair was peaking out from under the covers of their bed. The rest of him was tucked safely underneath the blanket. This was where he belonged. With her. It was a wonder to her how he slept through the sound, but she supposed that it was just a matter of being on a real bed for the first time in six months. As much as she wanted the help, she wanted her boyfriend to be happy more.
Meg got up out of bed and walked to her nine month old child crying in the bed. His cheeks were flushed pink and his hair was a mass of curs around his head. She couldn't resist the smile that appeared on her lips. Even when he was screaming, Hermes was a beautiful child. She walked across the room and carefully picked him up from the bed. His body was warm. Meg had run warm all her life, so it was no surprise that her son would too. She rested him on her hip and began shifting her weight from one foot to another in a sort of rocking manner. When he still had not stopped crying after a minute, she began to sing. Nothing that anyone around her would understand. It was a quiet Greek lullaby that her grandmother had taught to her when she was five.
As she sang, Meg heard movement behind her. Someone was entering the room. She stopped. "Flynn?" she quietly questioned.
