Dr!ve is a producer and musician from Switzerland based out of London. His latest track is a terrific rendition of Take Me To The River. The 1974 Al Green original has been covered abundantly in all sorts of styles over the years, by the likes of the Talking Heads and Annie Lennox. Dr!ve's version, if at all close to any of the aforementioned, would likely be closest to Annie Lennox's synthy version, but there's a funky smoothness and soulfulness to Dr!ve's cover that's fresh and new to the song. He infused the track with synths, guitars, and techno inspired drums, while staying true to the lyrics. The end result reminds me of a more synthy and disco imbued Milky Chance, blended with some glistening 80's synthpop from a band like the Eurythmics. A documentary with the same title is coming later this year.
