Lucifer Season 5A Review

A bit late, but here’s my review!

So given how well Season 4 turned out, I was beyond excited for season 5. Was the first half as amazing as I hoped? You’ll just to read down below…

The episodes this seasonal chunk definitely felt important and purposeful, just like season 4. There wasn’t as much tension since last time, as Chloe has gotten used to Lucifer’s truth and the whole Hell leadership situation is resolved by the time episodes 3-5 roll around. I admit that the excitement isn’t there as much as it was last season, but that’s never been really a problem for Lucifer. After all, the first three seasons managed to make tons of enjoyable filler, and the filler here is both a) interesting and b) tie into the larger stories and themes. If they can make a season of Lucifer living alongside with his brother and mom in the same area, then I’m sure people will be ok watching Luci and Chloe enjoy some happiness for once. 

Michael’s easily been one of the best villains in the show to date. Having Lucifer’s face in a sinister american accent is creepy enough, but throwing in his ability to draw on people’s fear upped his memorability. And even with the weirdly small appearances he has, the way he breaks the charatcers’ motives down so they’re questionalbe is something else. Really interested in seeing what his goal is - maybe killing god or taking his place? Dunno.

I’m also glad more or less every character had an arc this season, just like last time. Ella’s bad boys kink tying directly into a serial killer case. Linda’s suprsingly dark past coinciding with her fears about motherhood. Dan’s self-help routine that is seriously tested after learning the truth about Lucifer and Michael. Amenadiel learning he’s stronger than he thinks as a father. And Maze, a multi-dimensional character who betrays Chloe and Lucifer twice this time, actually having a valid reason to do so that makes her betrayals more palpable that in Season 3 (forgive me, I didn’t fully watch it so the comparison isn’t totally justified). 

The two most fun episodes, in my opinion, were episode 4 (the noir flashback epiosde explaining Lillith) and episode 7 (where Chloe gets Luci’s mojo). 

And the thing is, I don’t even know where the second half of season 5 is going. Dan’s still coming to grips with the truth about Lucifer, and Ella might be right behind him in figuring it out if what Pete said to her doesn’t come first. Not to mention Maze’s betrayel being addressed, Michael’s plotting, and the appearance of GOD himself. How in the hell is it going to be resolved?
