ex chief medical examiner has a lot to say about racialized murder carried out by police -
"they wanted to rule it death by natural causes, due to overreaction to police procedure"
"they wanted to rule it suicide - he had neck compressions"
over and over "excited delirium"
once fired for ruling a death "homicide" because the murder was carried out by police.
I like Dr. Michael Baden. I want to party with Michael Baden, but sometimes he's just a hired gun. Look at some of the cases he's been called in on by the defense: Phil Spector; OJ Simpson; Claus von Bulow; Church of Scientology (Death of Lisa McPherson in 1995); Marlon Bradon's son's murder trial. (Not to mean to take away from his body of expert work outside his defense testimony, but the 'king of all blood splatter' has influenced some caes).
He's adding fuel to the fire in Ferguson, just what we all need. Baden is criticizing the medical examiner's office based on his preliminary findings without having seen the x-rays, toxicology isn't completed, he didn't have access to the clothing, without correlating with the final investigation. He can certainly come out with his opinions at this juncture, and while going to the New York Times, a very reputable outlet, he knew his statement would carry a lot of weight and gain national attention.
More careful attention to his words could not add fuel to the open flame out there.
