The devil is in the detail of these 19th century still-lifes
Works by Blaise-Alexandre Desgoffe, a French painter who specialized in highly finished, frequently very elaborate, still-life paintings.
When Photography on Fabrics was all the Rage in 1947
Grandma’s half bathroom. She calls it ‘the sitting room’ and she has been collecting little chairs for YEARS and adding them to the walls. Sometimes when I was a little girl I’d try to count them all and always lost track. There are definitely over 100 in there, many of them chairs upon chairs.”

The Suoyi (蓑衣) is a traditional Chinese raincoat historically used by farmers, fishermen, and laborers for centuries.
Made from natural, water-resistant plant fibers—most commonly woven palm bark, straw, or reeds. The construction involves intricate weaving techniques that create a layered, shingle-like effect, which allows water to shed off the garment while remaining breathable. Long before the invention of modern waterproof fabrics or umbrellas, the Suoyi was essential gear for rural workers. It provided protection from wind and rain while allowing the wearer to remain mobile and warm during fieldwork. It is often regarded as a symbol of resilience, heritage craftsmanship, and a deep, historical harmony with nature. In some contexts, the antique versions of these capes are now considered collector’s items or symbols of good luck.
July 23, 2026 - The head of Police Station No. 1 in Tirana, Albania, got egged in the face after pepper-spraying innocent protesters. Protesters have been in the streets for weeks against government corruption that enabled a Jared Kushner-linked tourist development in a protected nature preserve. [video]

An American CNN journalist witnessed the kidnapping and torture of a Palestinian farmer by Nazi Israeli settlers because he refused to abandon his land, while IDF soldiers protected Israeli settlers, who systematically commit ethnic cleansing, pogroms, and massacres in the occupied West Bank. The Palestinian farmer was executed and killed with a gunshot to the head, while the IDF blocked the road to prevent an ambulance and emergency services from rescuing him… thus ensuring he bled to death. The criminal Israeli army and Israeli settlers are partners in war crimes and crimes against humanity.
well not that I'm going to sound city but am appreciating the irony...
