Dr. Abdul Haqq Walid is the official physician and pathologist of the Folly. He specialises in cryptopathology. When he's not helping out on magical business he works at the UCH (University College Hospital, a teaching hospital based in London) as a world-renowned gastroenterologist. He also operates as a personal physician to both Peter and Nightingale.

He's described as a spry, gingery man in his fifties, who speaks with a soft Highland accent. Ben Aaronovich has stated that Dr. Walid took an Arabic name when he converted to Islam during medical school; his name pre-conversion is unknown. He has a dry sense of humour, laced with self-mockery. Dr. Walid is a very intelligent man, who, like Peter, is interested in the scientific basis of magic. He often encourages Peter to do magical experiments and share the outcomes. He has invented and/or repurposed several words to describe magical conditions, like 'hyperthaumaturgical degradation' and 'sequestration'. **According to the graphic novels, he is a older, pale gentleman with reddish hair. I will be looking at sense of character as well as physical attributes when casting him. I have also selected mostly scottish / those of scottish ancestry actors.

(Set during Broken Homes) - Abdul accidentally listens in on a conversation of Peter and Lesley about Thomas and him.

Finally found the courage to write a drabble for my current favourite book series!

I figured a convert and a man of learning would pick his name carefully, so I Googled, and "Abdul Haqq Walid" means "servant of the truth, newborn" and I think that's kind of lovely. (And not helping my increasing crush on a minor character with hardly any fic about him.)

‘I don’t think he takes me as seriously as he should,’ Nightingale told Dr Walid. ‘He still slopes off to conduct illicit experiments whenever he thinks I’m not looking.’ He looked at me. ‘What is your latest interest?’ ‘I’ve been looking at how long various materials retain vestigia,’ I said. ‘How do you measure the intensity of the vestigia?’ asked Dr Walid. ‘He uses the dog,’ said Nightingale. ‘I put Toby in a box along with the material and then I measure the loudness and frequency of his barking,’ I said. ‘It’s no different from using a sniffer dog.’ ‘How can you be sure of consistency of results?’ asked Dr Walid. ‘I ran a series of control experiments to eliminate variables,’ I said. Toby on his own in a box at nine a.m. and then at hourly intervals for the volume baseline. And then Toby in a box with various guaranteed inert materials for a baseline on that. The third day Toby hid under the table in Molly’s kitchen and had to be lured out with sausages.
