Watching “Birth of the Drama King” because of Song Jiyang’s character - I mean, look at that!!! - but I really didn’t expect him to be so...
...so childishly resentful? I mean, I had seen screencaps, and he’s always beautiful and never smiling, but I had NO IDEA what kind of nasty, impatient, bitter, mistrustful, grumpy, short-fused personality that Dr Yan character has XD
He seems to be the absolute opposite of kind, patient, trusting Xiao-daozhang. Like the Lore to his Data. Which really got me thinking... What would Xue Yang do if he learned there is a mean version of Xiao Xingchen out there??
This young lady is annoying the fuck out of Dr Yan with her constant questions as he’s trying to work. One more minute of it and he’ll kill her and make it look like an accident. At that exact same moment, in another universe far away, Xiao Xingchen has a headache. A-Qing won’t stop talking about the “bad man” and how evil he is, despite the fact that the man is beaten to a pulp and can barely feed himself, or has yet to move from the bed. Though Xingchen would never say it aloud, sometimes he wishes A-Qing would just be quiet. Nor would he ever admit that he often finds her quite annoying. He would never ever admit that he sometimes wishes she hadn’t tagged along with him. And Xiao Xingchen, the Bright Moon and Gentle Breeze, renowned rogue cultivator and disciple of the legendary Baoshan Sanren, would definitely never admit, even upon pain of death or under horrific torture, that he once, very briefly, considered smothering A-Qing in her sleep. Nope. Never. He has a reputation to uphold after all.
Dr. Yan and Xiao Xingchen (Birth of the drama king / The untamed)
(not sure how spoilery this post will get, so better safe than sorry)
Now, of COURSE Xiao Xingchen here’s all serious and righteous because he’s about to give Xue Yang a piece of his swordmind (He also just ignored Jiang Cheng, which I find hilarious). But that character is kind and good-natured, so the vast majority of XXC’s screen time in The untamed is of him smiling.
(It helps a lot that he’s blind and doesn’t know who he’s smiling to...)
NOW, DR. YAN, ON THE OTHER HAND...
He’s. Always. Grumpy!!!
Really, that character couldn’t be more opposite to Xiao Xingchen! But now that I’m finishing the series Birth of the drama king, I can give him a reasonable motive for always being so moody, petty and resentful.
Guy can’t catch a break!!
Since he comes back to his childhood sect, the poor man has been:
1.punched
(while in bed, too!!)
((which, tbh, VERY sexy of him))
2.manhandled
(angry doctor is angry)
3. haunted by nightmares
(again, very sexy!)
4.knocked out by a qi blow that wasn’t even aimed at him
5. manhandled some more
As well as annoyed by sycophantic minions, scolded by his shidi for wanting to commit a smol homicide, bullied by his dad, assaulted and tied up by two idiots high on mushrooms...
So yeah... I’d be angry too XD
((BONUS! Let’s pretend for a sec that xuexiao is real... ^^))
Dr Yan is pissed off (again) because he doesn’t know where the fuck he’s going. His servant finds this hilarious. At that exact same moment, in another universe far away, Xiao Xingchen also doesn’t know where the fuck he’s going, but that’s because he’s blind and has lost his bearings. Xue Yang could help him but he finds it way too funny watching the daozhang bounce off trees.
In part 46, Yu Mingye is on a bridge with Goddess Zuo
Dr Yan is an excellent physician with a wonderful bedside manner. Just look at how he is treating this unconscious patient, for example. At that exact same moment, in another universe far away, Xiao Xingchen also has an unconscious patient. Xingchen is not a doctor and he’s blind, thus making treating his patient’s wounds very difficult. Still, he perseveres, despite poking his fingers into gaping wounds and possibly widening them more. He’s sure he touched bone at one point. Now, Xingchen hopes he can undo the stitching before his patient wakes up to see that Xingchen has sewn his own sleeve into an abdominal wound as he tried to suture it.
