D&D Asks: 9 and 14

9. What is the funniest thing anyone has ever said in a d&d session you’ve played in?This has a two way tie.“Do you see the bird?”  Our dwarf fighter was up a tree trying to attack a shape-shifted druid. I failed the perception check to spot the bird shaped druid, but I could easily see the dwarf in plate mail. I case fireball, 5 feet above his head.“Is your dog calling me a liar?”  We were investigating the murder of my character’s sister. Our Barbarian had beast speech, and spoke to the dog on the property who had seen things. The Barbarian then interrogated a guard, whom the dog indicated had some responsibility. When the guard denied it, the Barbarian said the property pet said otherwise.  It was hilarious. 14. What is the longest d&d campaign you have ever been part of?Probably the 4E homebrew campaign that ran from 2009 to about 2015. It was 3 different campaigns in one long stretch though. The largest part ran from 2013 to 2015. My daughter get her feet wet on this campaign. It was a 4e game, so it ran to 30th level. We swtiched over to 5e at the end of it.I also ran a 3.5 game that ran from summer 2006 to fall 2008. It had something like 12 people in it at one point.

1. What was the first race you ever played as?

Human. It was the easiest to grasp.

2. What was the first class you ever played as?

Fighter. It was the simplest.

5. What is your favorite race?

Human. I often find that I don’t often grasp the nuances of other races.  Dwarf might be a close second.

6. What is your favorite class?The title of my blog has wizard in it. :D

10. What is the most annoying thing that has happened during a d&d session you’ve played in?

My friend’s current character, is MPD, and it’s annoying when the “child” comes out. He acts like an annoying brat.

Thank you so much!  The responses started getting pretty long, so they’re under the cut.

1. What was the first race you ever played as?

It was actually a half-orc.  He ended up being the only half-orc I’ve ever played, but I was nothing if not edgy in high school.

2. What was the first class you ever played as?

Well, that would be a paladin.  I’ve always liked the notion of a magic knight, especially with the ability to heal.  Over time I’ve found myself playing more healers, but I still like half casters that can deal damage when needed.

5. What is your favorite race?

That’s tough.  I’ve always really liked playing dwarves, but the more books I get, the more I get interested in the less common races like Aarakocra, Firbolgs, and the Gith.  I feel like I still have to say dwarves, hill dwarves specifically.

6. What is your favorite class?

Historically, I’ve really liked Paladins, but since I’ve started playing 5th edition, I have a lot of love for Warlocks.

9. What is the funniest thing anyone has ever said in a D&D session you’ve been in?

Oh man...  That’s really hard, I play with a lot of funny people.  I’ll list some of the better ones.

“Yeah, you can’t go stealing from the library of Mystra, frame an npc, and stay Neutral Good.” - DM to me, when I stole from the library of Mystra and framed an npc.  I did not stay Neutral Good.

“Damn these claws!” - our party’s sorcerer, narrating the horribly clumsy big bad’s thoughts that he had just read.

“Can I just... throw my Iron Bands of Bilarro? ... Yeah, that’s a Nat 20.” - Halfling Rogue to me, the DM, thwarting a very involved skill challenge I had spent the previous night designing.

14. What is the longest D&D campaign you have ever been part of?

Hm...  I played a relatively lengthy campaign that started my freshman year of college in 3.5 where I played an elf barbarian, they were pretty nuts.  I also spent so long multiclassing that I became irrelevant as our rogue’s power creep outshone the whole rest of the party.  I’ve only been playing 5e for about a year and a half, but much of that I spent playing as a Tiefling Warlock, who I consider my most interesting character to date.  Both of those campaigns only lasted a year or so.  I’ve had some difficulty getting with a group that can play a single character for longer than a year or so, but I remember these campaigns very fondly nonetheless.
