the thing is that childhood doesn't just end when you turn 18 or when you turn 21. it's going to end dozens of times over. your childhood pet will die. actors you loved in movies you watched as a kid will die. your grandparents will die, and then your parents will die. it's going to end dozens and dozens of times and all you can do is let it. all you can do is stand in the middle of the grocery store and stare at freezers full of microwave pizza because you've suddenly been seized by the memory of what it felt like to have a pizza party on the last day of school before summer break. which is another ending in and of itself

I'm going through this right now. My FLGS is closing after 51 years. The owners are retiring and their kids don't want to run it. (I don't blame them. Running a small business is a LOT of work.) But I've been buying gaming stuff from there since 1981-2. One of the first places I went to after I got discharged, was this store to see what D&D stuff they had. For about 6 years I played D&D in the store, on Friday nights. With a whole asston of folks, that I am still friends with to this day. A couple have even passed on. (RIP, Howard, Dan, and Ed.) It's hitting harder than I thought it would. But I'm not surprised. The memories of that place are forever etched into my mind. Sigh. Getting old is a bitch.
