Dr. Appointment - a comic about a doctor
If a survivor of T*rture is at the doctors and has permanent injuries from things (many spine issues visible in imaging, intense pain, Neuro stuff) do you know how you would approach explaining those without having to say what kinds of trauma? And do you know how someone with DID could hide their DID from medical? I live in an area near one of the huge anti -DID med schools but a lot of medical triggers RA so I'm scared they'll think it's psychosis or Catalonia or disrespect. Idk.
Hi,
This is difficult as you want to receive the best care possible but, don’t want to be treated like crap because of mental health issues.
If you know your Dr. and are comfortable with them you can state you have a history of significant abuse. In my experience, Dr’s don’t want to delve into the psychological aspects of things. They may ask if you would like a referral for a therapist/mental health.
In our experience the host has told the Dr. they have a history of trauma and sexual abuse. The Dr. then assumes a diagnosis of PTSD and acts appropriately.
Dr.’s have seen a lot of things and have heard a lot of things. If they have been in their profession for a while they most likely won’t be surprised to hear about past abuse or t*rture. (A reflection of the world we live in)
Also, with Dr’s they often make ‘educated guesses’ with patients who are vague about their histories and can deduce what in some form has occurred by the injuries sustained.
Tell, your Dr. what you’re comfortable with. They don’t have to know you have D.I.D. They likely won’t think you do. You can tell them something along the lines of, this procedure makes anxious, afraid, etc due to past experiences in my life. That is it and they will know something traumatic has happened.

Yesterday’s Dr. appointment was a good one.
Got my referral to the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care for top surgery sent. Approval for surgery should be within 3 weeks then just a wait for the clinic in Montreal.
Also giving a med a try in hopes to stop shark week for good, until my hysterectomy.
whyd my phone go and break RIGHT before the busiest week of my life
