For Dan, Dr. Madden/Dr. Fine: LAWRENCE FLETCHER; for Natalie: CANDACE FLYNN; For Diana: LINDA FLYNN-FLETCHER; for Gabe, Henry: CARL KARL
Some additions:
- Robert Markus, the Toronto production Evan, was also involved in Next to Normal (not sure if it's Henry or Gabe).
- Just announced: Michael Park (OG Larry) will be Dr. Fine/Dr. Madden (perfect role for him, I daresay; I've fancast him on that role for a while) and Ben Levi Ross (national tour Evan) will be Henry, at the Kennedy Center production of Next to Normal, alongside Rachel Bay Jones.
Cripes. Now all we need is Mike Faist as Gabe.

Watching Next to Normal a bunch of times, I realized that Henry and Dr. Madden are the two primary characters who don't get an arc.And I figure that's OK because the Goodmans each have a very distinct, very powerful arc and they are the key players. But then I realized something else: Henry doesn't have a last name, and Dr. Madden doesn't have a first name. What could it mean?
What if Dr. Madden is Henry from the future?
Think about it: They never interacted, not even once, in a fairly small and intimate cast. Their stories revolve around the Goodmans, but they don't really change. Unless...
Henry ends up with Natalie, but witnessing the effects her family has on her, resolves to help them by becoming a mental health worker. But that would take a lifetime, which he doesn't have--he needs to help her now. Pot lets him access a time-transcendent part of his brain that allows him to go back and forth into the future and past.
Dr. Madden is young, but suspiciously accomplished in his field. Could it be because time and age are not issues for him? He can open numerous timelines, branch off into numerous career paths.
Dr. Fine is introduced and immediately discarded. He's ineffective, not what Diana needs. But she meets Dr. Madden, who looks EXACTLY the same as Dr. Fine. Weird, no?
What if Dr. Fine was Henry's first attempt at time traveling?
He realizes that he's not working well with Diana, so he creates a new future as Dr. Madden. Dr. Madden is a step in the right direction, but she's still so frustrated with failed psychotherapies that she ends her sessions with him.
And that's Henry's arc: Letting Diana go, and living out a normal life path with Natalie.
