new favorite scene transition
problem solving with natalie goodman, everyone
Natalie in sides of a coin being a prodigy and yet never being enough always falling short in favor of her dead brother only for Gabe to tell her that no she’s actually brilliant and it’s insanely impressive making her brain reboot. Amazing.
I am obsessed with how you write them fr!!!
thank you!!! i love writing the sides of a coin siblings bc they understand each other in a way that no one else can but also still have fundamentally different experiences based on their exact insecurities; they both struggle to see themselves as enough, while considering the other the pinnacle of what they can never be. it's a painful but fascinating dynamic—though they really haven't seen much of each other, they hold each other in such high regards bc of how they were raised to compare themselves, so when one of them reminds the other that, from their perspective, the opposite was always better, it's a hugeeee perspective check
shout out to the fringe production of next to normal for the choice to put gabe in the worlds biggest jorts and a cropped hoodie that was inspired
i think i finally understand the n2n ending btw in a way i didn't before. one of the things that gabe represents is diana's desire to be free as represented by her frustration with her doctors, since he supports her dumping her meds and makes an ect - electric chair parallel in aftershocks . at the end diana has found a more healthy way to feed that desire to live her own life, and so gabe is not as present in her life anymore because she's more free. gabe was part of the family tying her down and preventing her recovery and when she leaves his presence with her wanes. that is i think what gabe sings about in his verse in light. "and when the night has finally gone and when we see the new day dawn. we'll wonder how we wandered for so long so blind" he's not evil or even just rhe part of diana that wants to hurt herself. he's the part of diana that wants to be feee
In your series sides of a coin do you think the Goodman siblings are something almost similar to twins being the same exact age or are you subtly implying Natalie is still the little sister no matter the universe?
i wouldn't call them twins since their birth dates are different (gabe's a september baby + nat was born in march) but they are both sixteen when they meet! whether or not you think the birth orders are swapped as well is up to you since i didn't want to rob either of them of the angst of being the "replacement child" but i do think it's a bit interesting to consider how gabe might feel knowing he'd had a baby sister for a few months but not remembering her name—it's rlly just the timeline with dan and diana that shifts slightly in that case
