Hi, is you can, can you please give me detailed instructions on how to get top surgery covered by OHIP? Im super confused, I got my CAMH letter about a year ago, and dont know what to do? Do i just book an appointment with dr. mclane and its all free? Im super confused

If you went through CAMH’s assessment program (I think it was called Gender Identity Clinic), an application for funding would have been sent to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. Once processed by the Ministry, a funding decision letter is sent out to you. The letter would indicating what services you’ve been approved for and where you can have it done, a long with a time in which the service has to be done by. 

Check who your funding was approved for. If you were not approved for Dr. McLean and wish to see him, contact CAMH (or who did your application to the Ministry) and see if they can send another application to the Ministry to switch your surgeon. OHIP funding for Dr. McLean covers the mastectomy portion of the surgery, should you want the additional contouring it costs $2000+tax.

If you were approved for Dr. McLean, contact his office and set up a consultation appointment.

Hey guys, this is for anyone who has had top surgery with McLean. My consult is the middle of April so I wanted to know what the wait time was like between your consult and your surgery date. When I was emailing their office in November they gave me what I thought was a possible date of August/September but now I'm wondering if I got confused and it will be much longer than that. Hope this makes sense, I just don't want to bug their office by emailing again.

I had my consultation with Dr. McLean in August of 2016 and then had surgery in January 2017. His office has become extremely busy with the increase of people going to him due him now accepting OHIP funding. So 4-7 month wait after a consult can be expected. Try to be patient, you’ll be able to book a surgery date at your consultation.

I don't know of any specific age restrictions as long as you have consent, but if you're trying to go through OHIP, there is a long wait list for consultations. Goes into 2018, so be prepared for that.

Yeah, the McLean Clinic has become super busy now that they accept OHIP.

I believe that’s also from the time you contact the clinic yourself not from the time that you get your letter saying you’ve been approved for OHIP funding.

so I finally got my approval from OHIP for coverage of top surgery, and it seems the default surgeon for it is that one in Montreal. I'm having trouble finding any reviews for their top surgery work, could you help me find some? post-op pics would be especially helpful. also, if you could outline the pros and cons you might know about regarding them vs. Dr. McLean, I would really appreciate it. thanks!

I wasn’t able to find any when I was given my approval either. Maybe there are some followers who have had surgery with Dr. Brassard or Dr. Bélanger in Montreal? 

I had decided to go with Dr. McLean because I’ve seen a lot of his work and liked the results that I saw. A Con for Dr. McLean is that OHIP will only cover the mastectomy portion of the surgery, not any chest contouring. So if you decide that you’d like to have that it’s an extra $2000.

Hi, I live in Ontario and was curious about Dr. McLean, do you know how old you need to be to get top surgery done by him? I know he is a really good top surgeon and really want to know.

I’m really not sure what the answer is. I would suggest contacting his office to ask. You can either phone the office at 866-731-0431 or fill out an information request form  and have an email reply.

Can anyone tell me how long the pre-op with McLean generally is? Also, any tips for recovering?

If I’m remembering correctly, at my consultation, I was told a pre-op would be about 2 hours. If a follower can confirm this or correct me that would be awesome.
