Drabble Collective 2025
Day 30: Flannel - @thedrabblecollective
This, as well as all of the other drabbles I’ll be doing for this challenge, are meant to be (out of order) parts of a novel I’m working on, so they probably won’t make much sense on their own.
She gently opened the aged envelope and slid the letter out, fingers careful with the thin paper, her shock at the first two words that greeted her so great she could have fainted onto the soft flannel of her bed, her curiosity so grand that to close her eyes would have been an unforgivable sin.
Dear Elm,
Cedar had spent her life up to this point hearing this name only in passing, in hushed chastisements and whispered conversations, never letting her attention sharpen on the point, allowing it only to seep into the background, where she could think without words.
And…that’s it! It feels like this challenge went by so fast, but that’s 30 days.
