Hello! I apologize if this is offensive, but I was wondering about you being DragonKin? What does that mean to you? Do you have any closer connections to areas of magic? Thank you! Again, sorry. -Sam

Oh wow, thank you for the message <3I’m also incredibly sorry that I leave this blog very inactive but it’s mostly notes for myself so I add to it whenever....

As for me being DragonKin, or as I call it, DracaHorte, is a spiritual belief I hold for myself that I have the soul of a dragon. This does not affect my day-to-day life and holds very little impact over daily activities and it’s pretty much a random factoid of my life that I ignore 90% of the time.

However, that 10% where I don’t ignore it? Is because of religious and spiritual stuff and sometimes my being DracaHorte affects how I practice. Usually just in the magical aspect. I tend to meet a lot of astral dragons because of this and they sometimes hang around (especially the smaller ones that can fit on my shoulder or one in particular that likes to nestle herself in my hair when I leave it down). The first dragon I met admitted to me that he hung around only to see and learn what my potential could be - I became a case study for him because he was intrigued. I decided not to ask the others why they stay around because it’s probably the same thing: they’re interested in the little human who dares to possess a dragon’s soul. 

(I have a theory of why it happens that kind of makes sense but due to lack of scientific proof of a soul it’s not like it’s a scientific theory but I like it anyway)

As for magic, I firmly believe that your soul creates a certain “flavor” or “signature” to your magic that helps tell the universe that the magic being cast is all your doing and anything that makes up your individual self also creates this magical signature. Having a dragon’s soul gives my magic a slight dragon-like flavor to my magic in general. In a formal magic setting this becomes more apparent when I cast a circle, and after some teaching from one of my dragons, he helped me on how to cast a circle by calling the draconic spirits of the elements to amplify my own small dragon signature in order to give me a bit of a boost (which, let’s face it, was a science experiment for that dragon). 

As for religious, the process of magic is religious and how a body gets a soul is also a religious belief (those are also separate topics from this current post so I’m not explaining them here). Dragons are also important to my deities, but other than a strong association between my gods and dragons, the specifics haven’t been made clear to me yet and I don’t care enough to find out at this time. It’s not relevant to what I’m currently able to practice in my parents home.

What is a Gnyrn Flesc?

For definitions on the terms used within my personal practice, please visit my Dictionary on the side menu! And I am not tagging this otherkin for personal reasons!

Gnyrn Flescen, or otherkin (pl), are individuals who believe, for various reasons, that they are non-human in spirit. It can be a spiritual belief centered around reincarnation (and I believe this is the most common situation) or because of a traumatic incident. Whatever the reason that the belief is held, a Gnyrn Flesc believes that their soul, their Feorh, is not human in origin.

In addition to the above, having astral responsibilities to any species living in the astral, does not make someone Gnyrn Flesc. If it were so, then all Gnyrn Flesc would be able to astral travel and that is not the case. I and many other Gnyrn Flescen, do not travel astrally at all.

Another point to make is that if you have astral based limbs that are non-human, that also doesn't mean that you are a Gnyrn Flesc. There are plenty of individuals who have "astral forms" different to their mundane forms who do not identify as Gnyrn Flesc at all. While having astral based limbs can be an indicator of being Gnyrn Flesc, it is not the deciding factor. Many Gnyrn Flescen, including myself, didn't discover other astral based limbs until "awakening" and discovering our Horte. Before deciding that you are a Gnyrn Flesc, do some soul searching and ask yourself if you /feel/ like you are meant to be human or another creature.

*As a side note to the above, if you believe you can physically feel the presence of astral based limbs, first question if it's a matter of your posture. A lot of people claim to physically feel the presence of wings, but as someone from a family with a history of back problems, I do suggest that you look into the mundane answers first. I have wings, but I also have an aching back due to being hunched over the computer, a book, or because of car accidents in my past. Don't shrug the pain in your back off so easily when there could be something serious causing it.*

Within my practice, it is believed that with the non-human Feorh, comes a "hidden heart" or Horte, which connects the Gnyrn Flesc to their "true" species. This means that instead of saying [species]kin, within my practice [species]Horte is substituted because you have the "hidden spiritual heart" of that species. So instead of calling myself dragonkin, I would call myself DracaHorte or DragonHorte. The Horte is a hidden spiritual heart that Gnyrn Flesc posses (just like a physical heart belongs to your living Flesc, or flesh), and it does not influence the development as a human (unless you "obsess" over your status as Gnyrn Flesc and reject your human development - at which point you can endanger others or yourself). The most that being Gnyrn Flesc can do to development as a human, is a slight lack of understanding how and why certain behaviors exist within humanity and comprehension of social cues might be slightly affected. It's nothing major and does not interfere with socialization overall.

This is my spiritual belief. I do not believe that I have lived before as a dragon, simply that my Feorh was given the life of a human to satisfy the growing population demand and that my rightful first life as a dragon was stolen from me. I hold this belief for a variety of reasons. This belief also does not directly impact my life as a whole (other than the few dragon-influences I have on my religious and spiritual path). I recognize that I am physically human, with human development, and while sometimes my depression has me reject the idea of being human, I do, generally, accept that I am and that this is my life.
