sayu!
What I like about them: There’s a lot of things I like about Sayu! I like her sense of humor and how fantastically she can banter with Light. I also like her spirited and generally cheerful nature. Before her kidnapping, she always seemed really upbeat despite the increasingly complicated nature of her family dynamic and the world around her on a larger scale.Then there’s also how resilient she is and how she pushes herself to live her life again when she’s rescued after a very traumatizing experience. She’s just someone who tries to do her best and isn’t terribly cynical or jaded.
What I dislike about them: Is there really a good reason to dislike Sayu….
Favourite moment: Probably how she manages to get Light to give her 5000 yen as hush money, haha.
Least favourite moment: The scene of her being terrorized by Mello’s mafia because wow incredibly sad.
A situation with this character that I want to see explored more: There’s a bunch of scenes in canon that I wish we got to see through Sayu’s perspective.. though I suppose it’s also for the best that we didn’t because they’d have been kinda heartbreaking, sob. In particular, I would have liked to see more of how Sayu adjusted to Light’s absence during the Yotsuba arc when she is told that he ran off to live with Misa and that he has been disowned by their dad. It’s the first time that her sense of familial bonds would have been really badly shaken and it’d force her to question just how well she really knows how her dad and brother think and feel. There’s definitely a lot of fascinating character development there that got glossed over which is a real shame, imo.
An interesting AU for this character: It’s less “interesting” and more light hearted but potentially cute and funny, but an AU where Sayu actually meets the idol Ryuga Hideki when she’s in her 20′s would be kinda sweet, haha.
A crossover: I haven’t thought much about crossovers for Sayu :/ But it might be neato if Sayu had latent abilities akin to those of Suzumiya Haruhi that she was unaware of and while everyone else is focused on Kira creating his new world order, they all miss how Sayu is the actual creative force influencing the universe with her imagination.
OTP (fave ship): I don’t really ship Sayu with anyone! SayuxHappiness???
Other ships? Nah. Low key Sayu/Hideki but not in a serious way.
BROTP: The original and very unimaginative literal BroTP with Light, haha.
NOTP: Matsuda. It’s just kinda creepy at baseline and post-canon it takes on an additional layer of skeeviness that doesn’t really appeal to me personally.
An assortment of headcanons! An assortment…is a lot, haha. I do think when she and Light were kids, they got up to a lot of shenanigans together. Sachiko wouldn’t let them keep a dog or a cat so they caught insects together and kept them in those cheap plastic aquariums and kept them under their beds. Little things like grasshoppers, caterpillars, mantises, snails (yes, not a bug I know).
