Lab partner/elevator/mcdonalds trainer meme: Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger.

Lab Partner: Hermionie.  Ron and Harry are great guys but academic slackers and Hermionie def understands chemistry better than I do.

Elevator: Harry.  Boy could use a nap/chill time and is cool enough to talk about quidditch/the failings of our respective pedagogy/what magical creature we’d own if we could care for it properly.

McDonald’s Training Manager: RON.  Dude isn’t great at booksmarts but he’s a tremendously practical and organized guy when you give him a system to work,  he’s probably got the best-run McDonald’s ever.

some people produce their own neurotransmitters but if u can’t storebought is fine. Diabetic people take insulin, which alters their “natural” internal chemistry, but there’s no moral value attached to that. When you’re on medication, your brain acts the way it would if it were able to produce chemicals healthily

I’ve been on and off meds since I was six so I grew up associating taking medication with being stable/healthy. It’s just once in a while it really grates on me how little it takes for me to go into a tailspin, even after all the progress I’ve made. I hate being delicate.

"average chapter is 5000 words" factoid is actually false. Writing Shana, who writes 20,000 words per chapter, is an outlier adn should not have been counted

I had a great time reading Eragon as a 14/15 year old. It was literally 100% fantasy tropes inexpertly duct-taped together and as someone who LOVES fantasy I was vaguely delighted to just kind of roll around in a big pile of tropes without having to think too hard. I have currently sworn a solemn vow that I will never read this again because in retrospect it was fucking awful and I don't want to ruin my vague fond memories of it.

Honestly I do feel that if I was, oh, fifteen years younger and perhaps seeing some of these tropes for the first time (and if I wasn’t a history buff who studies things like the history of glassmaking for fun) that I would enjoy them more. 

As it is, this book could have greatly benefited from Paolini maturing a few more years and refining the manuscript, and much more editing. Honestly, his parents did him a disservice by self-publishing it and promoting it and, essentially, treating a fifteen year old’s story about how dragons are cool as a great literary accomplishment.
