But, I mean, that's an exactly correct point? I mean, so long as we define personhood w/regard to sentience, then sentient AI immediately become subject to the rights thereof.
Yeah one of my main points is that I don’t think we’re ready to steward a sentient AI from an ethical perspective when we can’t even sort out how to ethically treat other species and ourselves. The prospect of it thrills me to my core, but I just don’t think humanity is ready for that responsibility. Just look at how terribly we treat our biological children!

I’ve been on and off meds since I was six so I grew up associating taking medication with being stable/healthy. It’s just once in a while it really grates on me how little it takes for me to go into a tailspin, even after all the progress I’ve made. I hate being delicate.

So, I agree that people are mostly good. I also think that mostly good people can believe and work toward not-good things. I take issue with you saying people who (eg) want to criminalize abortion 'just see the world differently'. This trivializes the damage done to real people. They do see the world differently, but that shouldn't excuse the actual harm their views perpetuate. Straddling the forgive the sinner/forgive the sin line is tough, but I think you crossed it there.
I feel you...but, to them, we are literally people who want it to be legal to kill babies. They see the world differently...meaning that they see abortion as the murder of a human child. It is easy to see why they might not mind all of the damage done to real people by criminalization if it saves the lives of hundreds of thousands of children.
People on the opposite side of this argument might have the same response you just had to someone who maintains that pro-choice people simply see the world differently. This is exactly why this is such a complicated, divisive, visible, and difficult issue.
