Thrawn Stories
It took me awhile to really key in on Thrawn as a character. It wasn’t until after I watched Rebels that I started reading Tim’s novels (I’m catching up on the Legends Thrawn right now). The character was so fascinating and that beat down that Thrawn delivered to Kallus left me convinced that there was more to it than just anger that a formerly loyal agent of the Empire had betrayed his oath. So, I built in a deeply manipulative relationship for the two of them in the story I am writing.
But it also sent me on a search for Thrawn fanfic stories and I’ve found three that I really want to mention because they are just so good. They represent Thrawn in Holmes mode, in Rommel mode and I’m not quite sure how to describe the third one apart from haunting and sad. All of them were written by Draculard.
The first is Avalanche that allows Thrawn to display all of his investigative skills and also feature Eli and Faro and is a fascinating mystery.
The other is Signal Lost///Contact Regained which deals with the aftermath of the battle for Lothal, and has a haunting call back to that last scene with Ashoka in Clone Wars burying the clones after Order 66. It features Thrawn and Ezra.
And finally there is Out of the Woods which weaves such a mood of melancholy and menace tempered by love that it has left me thinking about it for days after. That one features Thrawn and Gilad Pellaeon.
“I brought flowers,” said David flatly.
Owen glanced over. There was an expensive bouquet in David’s left hand, and a baggie of snow-pure cocaine tied to the stems with a lush blue ribbon.
“Did Fox pick those out?” Owen asked.
Hello, here's an illustration for THIS short @draculard fanfiction (Thank you for writing it!).
So, here's your supervillain with a bag of cocaine in a bouquet, to give as a gift because his henchman is jealous of his nemesis. Also, only now we're noticing that his left hand should be made of stone, not his right, but oh well... let's pretend there's not mistake, shhh.
Haven’t you watched gargoyles? Do it do it do it.

Okay, controversial ask time: what are your thoughts on fandom squicks and dark topics? 😇🥄
I I have no idea what gif I thought I was looking for, it wasn't that, but I don't know how I could have started this off with anything else
aaaanyway
I'm going to insert some gratuitous commas into your question *snicker* because excess punctuation is my jam, so: My rambling thoughts on fandom, squicks, and dark topics...
Everyone has squicks about something
Most people have at least one or two triggers, there's this thing called Life that happens to all of us and it's not always pleasant
Squicks are not triggers and people need to stop conflating the two - both are extremely valuable terms for interacting within fandom. Neither term carries (or rather, should carry) any judgement: other people are allowed to read, write, or draw things that fuck you up or make you go urgh :s
Conversely, nobody else has to read or look at a thing you made or like simply because you made it or liked it. If they say no thank you that's not for me, respect that and don't take it personally. And ffs, don't try and make them explain why if they don't volunteer that information.
Beyond the more obvious topics covered in AO3 Archive Warnings, for example, it is impossible for anyone to anticipate any and all squicks or triggers that other people have
Squicks and triggers and Nope subjects can change over time or be extremely context- or even mood-dependent, and they don't always make sense even to the person who has them. Sometimes Brain just says No. Sometimes they're seemingly random, innocuous details or topics that aren't ~typically~ troublesome but are inextricably linked to a specific personal experience, trauma, or sense memory.
Nobody has the right to demand knowledge about anyone else's triggers or personal history or identity or life experiences, for any reason
Nobody has the right to demand anyone else justify their interest in dark topics and/or other content deemed 'problematic', for any reason
Each of us individually are responsible for only two things in fandom, when you get right down to it:
curate your own experience - block, filter, and avoid what you need to, and for crying out loud, don't go actively looking for stuff you don't like and then complain that it exists
make it possible for other people to curate their own experience - tag your shit appropriately so people can find or avoid it as needed. If you fuck up, admit your mistake, fix it as best you can, learn something and move on.
