The opening sequence in Draculee, Draculaa has got to be one of my favorite couple of minutes in all of Animaniacs. So many great laughs and cute sibling moments.

It starts with them burrowing like Bugs Bunny (and Yakko points out that they are not rabbits, contrary to some people's belief). Then they just, pop out.

Then you're hit with one of the cutest moments in the whole show, Wakko imitating his older brother.

I love the triple misconception the Warners had to have to get to this point. First, the mistaken belief that their parents are pencils, since they were drawn and not born. Then the illogical conclusion that since their parents are pencils, they must be from PENCILvania, which they don't realize is actually spelt Pennsylvania. Then they try to go to Pennsylvania, but actually end up in Transylvania. All of this is mentioned in passing, it's totally up to the viewer to connect the dots and imagine the absolute ordeal Yakko led his siblings on to get here. Very deep comedic writing that respects the intelligence of the audience.

Yakko explains this to Wakko, who nods along like it's the most logical thing in the world, just because his brother said it.

Then lightning strikes a nearby tree, prompting the siblings to huddle together in fear.

The intro sequence ends with a great meta joke where the siblings start to speed off like typical cartoon characters before suddenly stopping and walking away normally.

The super-cute animation of this episode ties it all together. The only episode I think is animated cuter than this is Episode 5, Taming of the Screwy.

Of course, the sad implication beneath it all is that the siblings, specifically Yakko, are actively searching for parents and family they will never find. By the reboot, they seem to have given up on this, which is almost sadder in its own way.

Very good episode, one of my favorites in the original series. The whole thing is a screenshot mine, and I highly recommend watching it for yourself, even if you've already seen it a hundred times like me.

Part 6 of The Warners Are Puppies And Here’s Why!

Continuing on from part 5 the first thing we see is Yakko wagging his tail in the Disasterpiece Theater skit.

During Potty Emergency we see Wakko’s tail wagging anxiously as he searches desperately for a bathroom.

In Sir Yaksalot,King Arthur yanks Yakko to the floor by the ears which Yakko clearly dislikes. The same way a real dog wouldn’t like it.

In the begining of Draculee Draculaa Yakko nuzzles Wakko’s nose with his own the same way a mother dog does with her pups.

In Chairman of The Bored we see Wakko with the Doggy-Bag he prepared eating with his head literally buried in it.

In The Senses Song this weird scene happens. The Sibs pick themselves up by the scruffs and hop off screen.

And a few minutes later we see Wakko try to pounce on Dot the same way a puppy does when playing with its siblings.

We get too see Yakko’s tail wagging again in Turkey Jerky.

As well as Wakko standing on all fours like a dog again.

At the begining of Yakko’s Universe we see Wakko’s tail wagging as he digs around in the snow like a puppy.

And near the end he stands on all fours.

In A Christmas Plotz,Mr. Plotz grabs Yakko by the scruff.

In Warners and The Beanstalk we get this moment. Yakko holds Wakko up by the scruff and Wakko gives him Puppy Eyes.

In Ups and Downs we see Wakko sitting like a puppy a few times.

In Drive-Insane we see The Sibs sitting on the ground and begging like dogs.

And making puppy eyes.

At the end of Dot’s I'm Cute song she ends up on all fours angry at Yakko and Wakko for ruining the song.

In Meet Minerva Yakko and Wakko interrupt Minerva’s privacy by howling “Hello Nurse!” and panting over her beauty,tongues out and everything.

In Dot’s Quiet time we see Dot sniff the air the way dogs do.

And lastly in Wakko’s Gizmo we see Wakko digging around in a Trash Can how a dog would do.

Did you know the episode Draculee Dracula was the first Animaniacs episode made?

I did not! And I can’t find any source for that, or any source that says what the first episode made was at all, so I’ll just take your word for it.

I honestly wouldn’t be able to tell. It feels like they’ve got a good handle on everything- the writing is tight, and the characters are handled well. The animation looks great, it’s very smooth and easy to look at. If this is their first effort, they really hit the ground running.

This seems like a good opportunity to emphasize that my ask box is always open, and I'm always happy to talk about Animaniacs, or other things. I talked about it in my new introductory post, but I know few people have seen it. Please check the guidelines there before asking, though.
