random rumblings about DraDof
I know this is one hell of a rare pairing, but I’m going to publish a story about it soon and I would like to write one of the reasons I find it so appealing. My story isn’t really about the romance actually (or at least not just about it), but much more about the drama. It’s also an AU, and I use the pairing in an unconventional way... but I’m digressing. Back on the main topic of this post, why do I find Dragon x Doflamingo appealing? Well, the first reason is simply aesthetically: I was introduced to the pairing by some absolutely beautiful fanarts and doujinshi. The second reason, that I only realised recently, is that I think the characters’ personalities are complementary and that they may work well as partners--more in an AUs than in canon, but still. For example, let’s talk about anger and how they express it: Doflamingo’s anger bursts suddenly, like a child’s, while Dragon’s is more contained, barely showed, mature. Dragon doesn’t express anger openly, usually, but uses it as a foundation to work patiently in the background in order to change the world. Doflamingo, too, works (worked) in the background to do that, but in a destructive instead of a constructive way: they are compatible but opposite at the same time. In the end, I just think the dynamics between them has lots of potential, and I already tried to show it in a couple of my past fanfics. The story I’ve finished revising this night, though, is my first one featuring them as a pairing--but at the same time is much more than that. Don’t expect cute romance or anything explicit, because it’s something really different from “regular” fanfics featuring a pairing. This story is also an AU, and in a way it is an original story that borrows elements from One Piece (but it’s still deeply rooted in it). I can’t say more since it is my fanfic for this year’s One Piece Big Bang and participants can’t share details before the publishing date, but I hope you’ll give it a chance when I’ll post it in a couple of days.
