coming of age š«Ā @iluvrei
Ok I WAS gonna do a Halloween themed post but if I don't do this one I'll forget.
So, here's my little list of headcannons if the Murdoch Mysteries characters had: Netflix.
Emily: Is going to watch every episode of Great British Baking Show, and is going to make Lillian watch it with her
Lillian: Has to endure Emily's baking shows.
Julia: probably watches crime shows
Murdoch: any science show,
i know ive said this before but the funniest moment in all of musical theatre history is when pierre shoots at dolokhov and immediately goes āNO WAIT I DIDNāT MEAN ITāā
If Iām honest, gamers, I donāt really know what to do with my life now.Ā
Life Is a Book
As a writer, I have always seen life as a book with each chapter representing a different part. Tomorrow I start the next chapter of my life, but in order to do that I have to end this chapter first. Ideally, each chapter would have a happy ending, but we know this isnāt how life works. We know that life can be cruel and unforgiving yet kind and caring at the same time. There have been many good and bad times in this chapter. There were things Iāll never forget and things I wished never happened. There were times when I wondered āWhat could go wrong?ā and times I wondered āCould it get any worse?ā. There were times where I didnāt push myself enough and times I pushed myself too far. Iāve learned that people care not for others, but for themselves. Iāve learned that peopleās true colors shine the brightest when youāre at your lowest. Those who cheered me on in my success have made me humble and those who abandoned me in my time of need have made me stronger as a person. Iāve reconnected with old friends and lost friends I thought would always be there. Iāve learned who has my back and who doesnāt. Most importantly, Iāve learned that itās okay to put myself first every once in a while.
Ā Ā Ā Am I happy with how this chapter is ending? I wish it were ending differently, but no matter how much editing and rewriting I do I canāt change how people act and treat other people. So, Iāll end this chapter the way it is and hope that one day I can go back and fix things before the final printing.
This is honestly the clumsiest photo I ever took. We were in some museum in Vienna and I tried to depict the size of whatever that thing in the background was so I took a selfie but my arm wasnāt long enough and I didnāt fit, nor did the thing.
NaNo update no. whatever
Day 22? Sure sure.Ā
I reached my goal a while ago but hey - I still really love the graph so Iām gonna keep going.Ā
WORD COUNT - 22,013 / 15,500
FEELING - pumped! Ten chapters down! Iām on the second side of my very small planning sheet!Ā
A BIT I LIKED - Chapter 10, in which Sam is asking questions about Glalis to Andy and finally finding out about some political turmoil.Ā
āThree years ago,ā he said, āSonder flopped. It was a bad year for all crops. Too dry, not enough water. Their lake sunk of half the usual depth. So, we gave them their fair share of food, took what little they could give us and we both got by. A bit hungry, but we survived.ā
Andy ran out of strawberries. The crow on his lap pecked at his fingers a little, trying to get the last of the juice off, then craned round to look at me, considering whether it was worth squabbling for the food I still had. It decided against it and settled back down on Andyās lap, preening a wing.
Featuring: two crows because crows are great.
EXTRA NOTES - Okay so basically at this point itās less a NaNo update and more aĀ āhey Iāve been writingā update. Actually, the only reason I made this post was because I drew a cool picture and wanted to share it.Ā
Look itās a cool picture!
Iām very pleased with how consistent Iāve been with writing. NaNo brings out the best in me, it seems. Maybe itās the graph.Ā
I have things to Ramble About about Sonder and so Iām gonna do that here, publically, rather than in my private little notebook where things usually go in, hope you enjoy.Ā
BASICALLY, the issue I have at the moment is that Iāve realised Atlas, the radio kid themselves, rambles, and within those rambles is a lot of info-dumping. Which is, yāknow, fine, it is a radio broadcast, telling the news about an island in a quick way is their job.Ā
HOWEVER. It may be boring. I find it boring to read over and over. Atlas gets these huge chunks of text where theyāre just talking about things that are important, but the important part gets hidden under all the Other Stuff they say.Ā
Solution? Well. Iām trusting youāve all read books likeĀ āThe Rest Of Us Just Live Hereā by Patrik Ness. Heās got this cool structure where, at the start of every chapter, thereās a little box of text about another story happening.Ā
Or, in āNoughts and Crossesā (Malorie Blackman) - thereās pages dedicated to a newspaper or some sort of public media.Ā
Or even the āUnwindā series, by Neil Shusterman - the media thing happens quite a lot there, and itās often interconnected with things that are happening in the narrative we follow.Ā
If I did something like that for Sonder, where Atlas gets a little chunk at the start of each chapter, they could say something that even relates to the chapter, and provides various pieces of foreshadowing for Glalis mischief, for Midsummer, or their first entrance in the book in general and also itāll be very interesting to write during the last few chapters when the war is happening.Ā
The only thing putting me off it now is the fact Iāll have to go back and edit, and I donāt have much time as it is. But Iām quite sold. If anyone has any thoughts, Iād be eager to hear them.
In other news, look at this beautiful mutation of pigments I found which occurs in crows oh my god Iām in love.Ā
