i’m glad we get along so well.
Someone: where's fleur? Me: HALSEY ISN'T EVEN THAT GREAT A PERSON OR SINGER
nooooooo i’ll cry :(
If you lost me in a crowd, what “offensive” thing could you yell that’d be GUARANTEED to track me down?
Okay but, continuing me talking about being mixed, have you ever had people ask you what you are or where you're from? Because I havent, but I'm constantly dealing with people not believing me when I saw I'm half asian and it's so. damn. annoying.
ahhh thank you for the ask bc i just couldn’t find your reply to the ask i posted, so glad that you send me this! yeah people often ask where i’m from/where my name is from etc, and i haven’t made any bad experiences with that yet except with how hesitantly people ask, as if they were offending me and then i feel bad for making them feel uncomfortable? but i can imagine that it sucks when people don’t believe you when you tell them where your from, why should you lie to them??
but how do you deal with ignorance towards racism/ ignorance towards your culture and heritage in your presence? idk it really bothered me when people in my class discussed hijabs or niqabs and told me that THEY were uncomfortable with people wearing it in public or around them and even said that they stand for opression and shouldn’t be worn in germany??? and i was just sat there like??
ARE YOU MIXED TOO
YES I AM, OMG YOU AS WELL? i'm probably what they call "priveleged" tho, my father is german and my mother is afghan. i am brown but my facial features are pretty european (i've often passed as spanish or italian). i have never really expierienced racism personally, but as i live in a white society i've often encountered a small degree of ignorance towards racism/ or issues concerning muslims in my presence, which wouldn't have happened of i wasn't "mixed". (plus the whole "your name is so exotic/ you don't look as if you're half afghan thing")
i was glad to see this post, bc sometimes i feel kind of left out. i am not directly concerned by racism but i don't feel that european either. what about you tho? ^^
Happy birthday lily!!!!!
