" and then this idiot said, 'hot milky.'"
Elena's snorts into her coffee. ( One second later and she might have been choking on it. ) It isn't that she hasn't heard similar stories about Nate before but ... Maybe she'd gotten a little too comfortable hearing these stories. That specific combination of words wasn't on the list of expectations.
She quickly sets her coffee down and takes a second to gather herself — to not burst out into a laughing fit yet. She's becoming more and more grateful for these moments as they happen more often. It was like this whole other world had been unlocked, all while she'd been unaware it even existed. Not that it had been easy to cope with in the beginning — but she knows this was the best possible thing that could have happened ( in arguably the worst possible way ) .
❝ Hot milky? ❞ Her voice shakes at the end with laughter. There's almost a level of disbelief in the way she says it. As if it sounds almost too like Nate to even be real. Elena's eyes glance in his direction even and she can see the light-hearted embarrassment on his face. She clears her throat, stifling some more laughter, before she asks, ❝ How'd that one work out for you guys? ❞ ( She can only imagine ... ) ❝ Or I guess — how badly did it work out? ❞
