The feeling of fresh air on your heated skin, drew forth a relieved sigh as you stepped outside, the breeze teasing at your clothes as you took a moment to simply breathe.
Still feeling rather overwhelmed by it all, you quietly made your way down the dimly lit steps and out onto the garden path, each step away from the bright lights and overly opulent finery, draining a little bit more of the tension from your spine. It was only once the voices of the party had faded completely however, that you felt yourself truly relax.
It was easy to get overwhelmed at events like these, especially when you found yourself ditched by the people you knew, and left to fend off the obnoxious advances and conversations of strangers, all by yourself. In all honesty, you would much rather be spending your time somewhere much more quiet, or at least somewhere where you weren’t expected to hold up such a depressing facade of perfection.
Personally, you’d always thought that it was peoples imperfections and eccentricities that made them truly interesting, but unfortunately there was no place for such beliefs and outlooks amongst people of the so called “higher class”, the likes of which you found yourself constantly surrounded by, much to your dismay.
It was draining, pure and simple, and every single day you felt as if a little bit more of what made you, you, was being steadily eaten away.
Shuddering at the thought, you came to a stop before a peacefully trickling fountain, your mind drifting elsewhere as you tried to fill your head with lighter thoughts, only to find yourself interrupted a short while later by an unfamiliar voice.
Instead of the annoyance you’d expected to feel, you found your heart skipping a beat as you turned and met the gaze of the stranger, something inside you instantly sparking with interest as you took them in, in full.
Somehow..... you had a feeling that this stranger wasn’t all they seemed.
