Hey to anyone who is trying drawing in aida's style (tbhk artstyle), what digital brush do you use? (preferably for ibispaint)
How long do you typically spend on a drawing? Of the ones you've posted, which took the longest? Which was the quickest?
I'd say my drawings take an average of 3 hours total or so... but sometimes it feels a lot longer when I get interrupted by my dog --
I think that hands down the drawing took the longest was the Rise August finale drawing... there were so many characters to draw and special effects that I added, it took me like a week to finish it, I think!
Apart from that, the only other drawing that I'd consider for first place of the "who took all my time" competition would be the cover art for Hide and Seek, but that was because it was multiple drawings added together.
But honestly it depends on how rendered I want the drawing (like if I'm adding shading or light effects), if there's going to be a detailed background, how many characters there are, etc.
I'm not sure what drawing I did was the quickest... but I would assume it was something very simplistic and prolly a janky ol' sketch lol 😅
How long did it take you to learn to draw well? I’m curious I’m learning to draw and I’m curious if it WIll really take 5 years or more for everyone to learn to draw competently
Hi there! Thanks for the question 😊 I’m going to answer this as well as I can because you’re not the first person to ask this. Regarding how long it takes to learn to draw: I wish I had a simple answer for you. It varies from person to person, and I suspect it depends on several factors, including (but not limited to): (a) how much you practice, (b) how targeted your practice is, and (c) your natural aptitude for it. By ‘targeted practice’ I mean picking out the things you need to work on, and focusing on those. For example, imagine a violinist who is having difficulty with eight bars in the middle of a piece. She’d do better to practice those eight bars until she gets it right, rather than play the entire piece over and over (or, even less helpful, play a different piece that is already easy for her!) As for my own path: I drew a lot as a child, and by about sixteen I could copy a photograph well (without tracing). But then I stopped cold turkey when I discovered boys, and alsothe need to actually read my textbooks if I didn’t want to fail out of university. Years later, when I was pregnant with my first kid, I decided I wanted to learn to draw properly, and started going to evening figure drawing drop-in. It took several years of intermittent effort to get to where I could draw from life fairly accurately. It took many MORE years of very focused effort to learn to draw figures from imagination, which is an order of magnitude harder than looking at a model and drawing what you see. And I’m still working on it. I’m still checking my anatomy textbooks all the time get the muscles right! Hope that helps! The TL;DR answer is probably ‘the more you practice, the better you’ll get, don’t give up.’ 😊
Ok I've got a question for any artists following me. Would you recommend drawing on paper then scanning it onto the computer to finish or is drawing the full thing on computer easier? I've been trying to draw and tablet and I'm getting better but idk if it would be better to draw on paper first.
Drawing problem:
When I draw, I feel like I can’t see the subject as having depth.
It just looks very flat.
Even when I *try* to add shadows, it still looks very flat and smudgy or messy.
Does anyone have any tips or advice?
About Travis’s Hair...
I know you guys haven’t seen me draw Travis but I’m cooking up something for him, it’s just his hair. The question is that should I keep the same wavy hair or just draw his hair like in the trailer for Oddity?
This may be kind of random I apologize, but I want to buy one of those digital drawing tablets. Unfortunately, I literally know nothing about them. Based on your art style I'm making the wild guess that you use one. If it's alright would you be willing to tell me what to look for?
I do use a tablet! As far as what i use, My tablets a 5 year old Intuos CTH-680 by Wacom!
As far what I’d recommend you to use, Huion H610 is a decent starter tablet that’s under 100 dollars and is a good size, it even has bonus hot keys and would pair nicely with photoshop.
The Wacom Intuos S is also a good tablet that’s also under 100 but it may be on the smaller end which isn’t a bad thing for a starter tablet if this is your first time using one!
I would recommend those two but I’d also encourage you to watch a couple of review videos on different types of tablets to see what works best for you! There are a lot of different tablets out there that may be a better fit for you than what I use.
I hope this helped anon, have a good day! <3
