Drawing problem

Me when I draw the first eye:

Oh that looks ok, now time to draw the other eye. :)

Drawing problem:

When I draw, I feel like I can’t see the subject as having depth.

It just looks very flat.

Even when I *try* to add shadows, it still looks very flat and smudgy or messy.

Does anyone have any tips or advice?
