Hannah didn’t mind a bit of mess but it seemed it bothered Rocket, but even so she followed after him. She never imagined a super hero ship to look so… normal, maybe a few golden hallways and chandeliers but it looked a lot more practical than what others suggested the guardians should have.
She was careful when following Rocket down the narrow steps, peering around the small space curiously. It almost reminded her of her father’s workspace back on Xandar; desk near his bed, well stocked food storage for snacks, spare parts kept in boxes. He liked everything in one space usally… he’d lived like that even before they came up to space.
As motioned Hannah approached Rocket, squeezing in beside him as she smiled up, well it would be difficult for the children to say she was a liar with picture proof like this. Her last adventure with Rocket had been a terrifying one and the cut on her cheek had long since healed. But the memory was still fresh.
“… Rocket? Do you think they’ll take my Daddy to jail?” Hannah asked, “They might take a while for them to find my Uncle… he’s very good at not being found. But he’s probably still on Xandar somewhere.”
Rocket stood away from Hannah as he fiddled with the screen on the camera, a little slot at the bottom glowing and making a faint hum as it printed the photo out like an old earth polaroid. Unlike the photos of a polaroid, however, it came out much more vibrant with the image burned into the material rather than ink being slapped on top, so it was dry and ready to be handed over to the girl the moment it was out.
Rocket already retired himself from trying to give Hannah flakey answers, so when he answered her he was very direct and blunt.
“Technically, your father is already in jail. He’s under custody until they’ve got things sorted out. What we want to avoid is your father going to prison, there’s a huge difference. It will be a lot harder to get him out if that happens...legally, anyway. If it comes down to that I can have him busted out within an hour, but I like the perks I’ve been getting from the Nova Corp so let’s not do that.”
After handing Hannah the photo he went to his mini-fridge and started rummaging around in it. Most of what was in there was alcohol and a left over pasta salad, but he eventually found a sweet, carbonated beverage that was child friendly and handed that to Hannah as well.
“For now he’s okay, though. They don’t have enough evidence to send him to prison. So, uh, anyway...” Rocket looked around the room, frowning when he saw all the little things that Hannah could get into or poke at that would either be a detriment to her or his projects and he winced.
“You know what, maybe we should move you up to Groot’s room. He won’t mind.”
There were much less things in Groot’s room that could blow up.
