teruko is actually so doomed by the narrative. she is doomed to repeat this cycle of trusting people and then getting betrayed.
I think it's eden. Yet she chose to believe eden.
Because she desperately wants to have hope for people, she wants to break the cycle. But she can't.
i KNOW by the end of this trial we will relive the end of chapter 1. Eden will end up being the culprit and it'll remind her why she shouldve never trusted anyone in the first place.
Especially eden, the girl who just wanted to connect everyone, the girl who was basically the glue for chapter 2. The girl who desperately wanted teruko to believe her. (And was able to do it.)
Teruko is doomed. she's doomed to always get betrayed by the people she trusts.
MAJOR DRDT CHAPTER 2 SPOILERS AHEAD, AS WELL AS A TRIGGER WARNING
the entire end of acevi and DRDT chapter 2 reminded me of “Unsaid Emily” from Julie and The Phantoms. Yes, I know the song is about a teen who said some unkind things and ran from home and ate a bad hotdog and died. I watched JATP. Besides that, how Ace and Levi’s dynamic died really reminded me of the song. In this case, Ace is Luke and Levi would be Emily.
“First things first
We start the scene in reverse
All of the lines rehearsed
Disappeared from my mind”
it’s likely that Ace wanted to take back what he said.
”When things got loud
One of us running out
I should've turned around
But I had too much pride”
adding onto that, Ace had too many emotions at the moment when he was speaking to Levi.
”No time for goodbyes
Didn't get to apologize
Pieces of a clock that lies broken”
Ace didn’t have time to say goodbye to Levi before his execution, or to apologize to him at all. For the last sentence in the verse, it resembles that you cannot turn back time. What’s the theme of DRDT? Time and fate.
”If I could take us back, if I could just do that
And write in every empty space the words "I love you" in replace
Then maybe time would not erase me”
Adding onto the beginning, Ace very likely wanted to apologize about the hateful things he said, and to take back everything he said.
”If you could only know I never let you go
And the words I most regret
Are the ones I never meant to leave
Unsaid Emily”
Again, ace likely regretted those words he had said. He had left so many things unsaid.
“Silent days, mysteries and mistakes
Who'd be the first to break?
I guess we're alike that way”
‘Who’d be the first to break?’ Meaning, who would be the first person to let their guard down. They actually have a few similarities. Both pretend not to care about each other, but do care for one another, and their peers. I mean, Levi literally got in the way of Teruko’s punishment, and Ace was willing to get executed for Levi’s safety. Both also show their emotions with aggression and violence. They have more similarities, I just don’t wanna keep typing about them.
”He said, she said conversations in my head
And that's just where they're gonna stay forever”
there isn’t anyone else to say what Ace yearned to say, as he’s dead and his words are gonna just stay with him forever.
”If I could take us back, if I could just do that
And write in every empty space the words "I love you" in replace
Then maybe time would not erase me.”
Time erased Ace, meaning his time was up and he had to die at the moment, and to save Levi.
“If you could only know I never let you go
And the words I most regret
Are the ones I never meant to leave
Unsaid Emily”
despite the rude words and threats, Ace emotionally never let go of Levi. He thought of him as a friend, not knowing that Levi never really cared for him or for anyone in the killing game.
”If I could take us back, if I could just do that
And write in every empty space the words "I love you" in replace
Then maybe time would not erase me”
yeah uhh I just explained this before now
“If you could only know I never let you go
And the words I most regret
Are the ones I never meant to leave
Unsaid Emily…”
Same goes for the last one.
WELL, YEAH!
that’s done now
now I can cry for three weeks over acevi (I genuinely cried when Levi got shot)
