I'm a little bit sad banana, from the 11x03 promo. Cas is not even sitting at the same (huge-ass) table as Sam & Dean, and again with the "pal" :/ I'm still holding out a small hope, for good dialogue based on the stills (eventhough it is the dreaded Bucklemming). Ps, I love your meta "3 times are a pattern", very good!
Hi, Nonnie!I’m glad you like my meta. :) Regarding episode 11x03, people who have followedmy blog for a while know that I always mentally prepare myself for awfullywritten episodes when they’re by Brad Buckner & Eugenie Ross-Leming. Theirdialogues are very bad more often than not. They write female characters or theinteractions between any character and a female horribly. Their episodes arealmost always problematic due to non-con, racism, sexism, misogyny, and some “no homo” among other things.Even our boys are sometimes OOC. But in terms of Destiel, I wouldn’t say they’reagainst it per se. They’re just… not thebest writers in the team (to put it kindly).
To be fair, they’ve given us some good (or even memorable) Destiel moments:
8x07: “Youcould have gotten yourself killed. Why didn’t you wait for me? […] I don’t needto feel like hell for failing you, okay? For failing you like I’ve failed everyother godforsaken thing that I care about! I don’t need it!”
8x19:(Naomi) “You’re hoping Castiel will return to you. I admire your loyalty. Ionly wish he felt the same way.”
9x03: Deandesperately looking for Cas. Cas telling Dean, “I always appreciate our talks, our time together.” We tend to forget how important Cas was to Dean in thisepisode because Cas had sex with April and Dean kicked him out of the Bunker. Theepisode was definitely dreadfully written, but it wasn’t against Destiel perse.
9x09: Casflirting with Dean. Dean trying to defend Cas in front of fake!Ezekiel. Deantelling Cas, “If that means that we keep our distance from you for a littlewhile, then… Then I don’t have achoice. I don’t feel good about it,but I don’t have a choice.” We tend to hate the episode because Kevin died, but it wasn’t so bad for Cas/Dean. The star-crossed lovers trope was veryevident.
10x03: Thiswas actually one of the best episodes they’ve written. The pacing could havebeen better, but Cas telling Hannah that Dean was his priority, Cas and demon!Dean, and then Cas and Dean talking at the end (Sam very obviously leaving Dean andCas alone). Not so bad.
10x10: Castelling Dean that he would text him Claire’s number. Cas wanting Dean’s helpwith Claire. Cas saying he likes texting.
10x16: Dean’sconfession and how he wants to experience people, feelings differently or forthe first time.
I won’tinclude 10x21 because there’s nothing that can be saved from thatdisgusting episode. I just want to make sure people know where I stand here. I’m not expecting a good episode. I’m notexpecting good dialogues or good characterization. But I’m sure we will have acouple of things that we, Destiel shippers, will use for future proof oranalysis. These writers are NOT subtle. Their subtext is not so deep. They arevery far from being smooth. For sure there will be lots of things in 11x03 thatin the hands of more talented writers could be better, but that doesn’t meanthat you have to worry so much about Destiel.
What I doexpect from 11x03 is that Castiel will be cured of Rowena’s spell and therewill be a very lame excuse for Cas to leave Dean and Sam. He will probably gofind Metatron because the angels hate him for breaking him out. Now that Hannahis dead, all angels will want to kill Cas. He won’t want to put the Winchestersin danger. He will want to fix things (as usual), so he will leave and hismission will be to find Metatron, or the demon tablet (maybe to open Lucifer’s cage?) or something like that. We won’t have Cas isthe coming episodes, so we should just be ready to accept whatever stupidreason for his absence. These writers are not even good at justifying Cas’absence, so that’s why I think the reason will be lame.
In conclusion, I hope all thishelps you be better prepared for 11x03. ;)
