“Our heirs will surely be beautiful, at least.” 👀
Percy knows he's lucky. He's the youngest bastard son of a nobleman who's too stubborn to send him off to some small town with a hefty lump sum of money never to be seen again. The only reason he's gotten this far is because he's an omega, and that's worth something.
So he knows he's lucky to be in this room, lucky to be on his father's arm as he's presented to his future alpha.
Percy still doesn't know the man's name, but he's circling him, looking him up and down.
"You'll do," he says, tone dismissive. "Our heirs will surely be beautiful, at least."
There's rage burning down Percy's spine, but that doesn't stop the heat from rising to his cheeks.
"Excuse me?" he asks before he can stop himself. Poseidon squeezes his elbow in warning. "Is that all you have to say?"
His future husband steps closer, far too close to be proper. "What else should I say?" he asks. "I'm buying you, darling. You have a a few months of being dangled on my arm to look forward to, if you're lucky to last even that long. After that I'll lock you away on my estate to look after the pups."
He's right. They all know he's right. But Percy is spitting with rage. He never was good at the passivity expected of omegas.
"That's what you think," he says.
Maybe it'd be better if his future Alpha wasn't so goddamn perfect, but he is and Percy can't deny it. It has him wanting to tilt his head to the side and breathe in deep until all he can smell and feel is the perfection of the alpha in front of him. Even now, the scent of cloves teases his senses. The match is seemingly too good for him, from the Alpha's looks to his blood, and Percy isn't so much a fool to not know what that means.
"Oh?" the alpha asks, stepping closer. Poseidon stiffens at Percy's side, but even he can't do anything unless the alpha does something out of hand. "And what are you going to do about it?"
"You'll just have to wait and see."
The Alpha laughs, and his smile is as sharp as the knife hidden in Percy's boot. "Maybe you'll surprise me."
