ive lost 6 followers in the span of 2 hrs and i just want to say though i am probably not leaving tumblr/the fandom (depending on how cc's react/a lot of other factors) i do not support dream any longer nor do i think his twitlonger was a good statement in any capacity. so yeah, unfollow me!

the part of this that hurts the most is to see how much the fandom is torn apart by this. like im not trying to detract from the victim im just mourning a loss of so many great ppl in this fandom ive met and mutuals too. this whole situation makes me sick with grief for everyone

just im sorry if your focus is debunking the girl without any critique of dream's behavior at large then fucking hardblock me. and if you think his twitlonger was a "good response" and if you think the fact he's using tommy's lore as a damage control was good. and if you think his original priv tweets were okay when this first all came to light please reevaluate yourself.

I always operate on believing victims and keep an open mind to new information always, but i will not sit here and you just call victims liars in my askbox without any nuance, context, or criticism of dream's behavior which is still abhorrent either way. fuck you

no worries!! happy to answer :) it’s a pretty simple answer actually, and it’s that he just… hasn’t done anything that fits the definition of grooming

if we define grooming as “when someone builds a relationship, trust and emotional connection with a child or young person so they can manipulate, exploit and abuse them” (taken from here), and assume EVERYTHING amanda said is true, dream has 1) had a polite conversation with a fan in instagram dms, 2) given her his personal snapchat and not infrequently replied to her snaps including giving her compliments, and also a $100 gift card at one point, 3) sent nudes and sexted with her for about a month before her eighteenth birthday. none of that is grooming.

the instagram dms are the driest most surface-level things to ever exist and never even initiated by him (transcript here) so we can toss those out. the tone of the snap replies (i don’t have a link to these specifically but they’re somewhere in this video) are open to interpretation, but even assuming they were intentionally flirty, that’s… not grooming either. he never goes out of his way to build trust/an emotional relationship with her, never manipulated or coerces or even implies using his power/position as a cc over her. (amanda never claimed that happened, either.) they’re flirty compliments, and a $100 gift card from the guy who bought a fan a car. so when we arrive to the “end goal”, aka the sexts/nudes, it can’t be grooming because she was never groomed to get there.

“but amanda said it was grooming!” i hear someone from the fourth row say. well, yes. amanda was wrong. the definition she gave in her own initial tiktok is (paraphrased) “grooming is when a content creator makes you feel special to get something” which just isn’t true, and it’s okay to both believe her and realize that words still mean things. you’re allowed to think she’s telling the truth, you’re allowed to find sexting and exchanging nudes weird/inappropriate and i don’t disagree (assuming they happened of course) but consensual sexting between a 22 year old and a 17.91 year old isn’t grooming, and tumblr’s insistence on calling it that both lacks any kind of nuance and hugely waters down a very serious term

bro he literally admitted to the insta dms being real 💀and it doesn't change the fact that he was talking privately with a younger female fan, as a wildly popular internet celebrity. Their was always a power imbalance. AT best he's a fucking weirdo, at worst he's a sexual predator; either way he's proven himself time and time again he's too immature and irrational to handle criticism *see all the drama he gets into every other fucking week* and he doesn't deserve a platform. anyway, maybe i should’ve made it more clear in the post, but i completely agree that the instagram dms are real, i’m not arguing that. but given that they’re, as i said, the driest most surface-level things ever (which i think is hard to disagree with?) it’s kind of like… who cares ?!?! a power imbalance exists when i talk privately with my teachers, and my boss, and my parents, and sure, a power imbalance existed here, they’re everywhere. but just because a power imbalance Exists doesn’t mean it’s being abused or is even relevant, and i find it hard to see where it comes into play in any of the material that’s been presented? like i said, he never manipulated, never coerced, and she never accused him of doing so. also internet celebrities dming fans is so normal— i’ve had conversations with them, so have my friends, hell badboyhalo broke the news of skephalo not being real in a fan’s dms. it only feels weird to people now because it’s been associated with grooming allegations. the snaps (if they’re real) cross a line which i’ve said before, but “this was inappropriate and shouldn’t have happened” ≠ “this is the work of a nefarious sexual predator who needs to be deplatformed”

i’m a little confused by your comment about how he handles drama tbh given that in this situation he’s the Only one involved who did the sensible thing and gave an initial response then shut the hell up. like sure no one’s saying dream is the best at handling drama in the world but how is it relevant anyway? (plus objectively he’s worlds better than he was in 2020 so that feels a little unfair, but again, irrelevant). anyway, i’m assuming you’re new here, so i’ll just say: i’ve done my absolute best to look at this situation as neutrally and objectively as possible, and i have a tag you can look through if you want more of my stance on it. i’m gripping with both hands, brother. it just so happens that part of that grip is to correct misinformation when i see it, and regardless of your personal opinions, “dream is a groomer” IS misinformation
