Spirit Work Consultation: Ancestral Dreaming

Dreamwork & Ancestral Visits:
I have been having dreams with spirits claiming to be family members/ancestors, but I only recognize a few of them. Setting is usually mundane (ie, one where my great grandmother came into my bedroom and woke me up; in another i was helping an older woman dressed in white bead necklaces and she told me she was my godmother) and the dreams are short. Sometimes it's just to chat, other times I'm shown a series of images or given items.
Generally in the past when family comes to visit that means they're taking someone back to the other side with them, but I haven't had a family member pass since any of these dreams. These spirits apparently have a message for me but I'm having trouble interpreting their symbols and I'm a little suspicious of the ones I don't recognize, since in the past only women from my mother's side of the family have reached out to me (with the exception of my paternal grandmother).
So I would like to know who they are (if they're still around) and what they need from me.
This is actually quite exciting what you’ve shared with me, and it’s strong evidence that you have some real gifts. It is not at all uncommon for dreams to be the medium through which ancestors choose to communicate with their living relatives, but not everyone is able to receive and tune into those messages. In general, being able to contact and interact with spirits in dreams like this is a wonderful ability not to be taken for granted. However, it can still be difficult to confirm identities and verify that a spirit is who they claim to be - you are right to be suspicious.
I think it’s very possible that you’re seeing changes over time because your ancestors may be choosing to reach out to you more and more - or your own abilities are growing over time, which opens a bigger window for them to visit more and in larger numbers. Perhaps initially they just wanted to make their presence known when someone is passing over and only a few of your maternal female relatives were coming to you, but now they feel it’s time to bring more of the family to you just to interact. You mentioned that they seem to be communicating something very specific, so it could also be a one-time need to deliver some urgent news about incoming events in your life.
It is normal for ancestors to continue to look after, protect, and try to offer guidance to living family members whether influencing them directly such as your dreams or subtly nudging without us even realizing it. It’s very likely that this is a very positive set of events. It seems that your ancestors are continuing to build a relationship with you and possibly grow that even more than before.
Your concerns are very valid about whether or not some of these spirits you’ve seen are actually your ancestors. I definitely think it would be wise for me to try to verify this for you before trying to work out what it is they want to communicate to you.
