A stack of boxes, to some… Years of hard work and a long overdue gift to myself and my well-being to me! These, my Friends, are my DW Collector’s Series 5-pc drums and my DW Collector’s Series snare drum—plus hardware, etc. When I left Nashville, I sold my kit because I didn’t know if I’d do well in LA and we might have had to live in a small space (LA is ‘spensive, Brah!) But I swore that one day if I could do it, I’d get myself a DW Collector’s kit because I always thought they were just incredible looking and sounding and were just the most awesome drums I’d ever seen/heard! Keep in mind, I have played drums since I was four years old and I was a legitimate professional at one time—on a major label tour and the whole nine yards, studio sessions, bar bands and so forth. I did the whole thing. But, chasing the “music dream” broke me. I lost the JOY of it. I thought it’d never come back. But, weirdly, being a voice actor allowed me to make money doing something that was more “Me” and allowed me to step away from music and then find it again, if that makes sense? My father was a hugely successful professional musician and I chased his dream thinking it was my own; when in reality, it wasn’t my path—not professionally, anyway. But drums? Those were mine. And I had a great love of playing them that was lost. I hope this gift of a beautiful set that I’ve wanted for my entire adult life will help me fully enjoy just making music for the fun of it again—how I used to feel all my young life! 🙂 I always read about and hear people talking about living their best life and making time for mental health and wellbeing but I just worked almost never taking time for my own health. It’s a large gift and there’s always the fear of putting it out there that people will say something rude or begrudge me this—but I can assure you, I worked all my life for this day and I am happy and proud (though nervous) to share. But, I also wanted to have this pop up in future timelines so I can relive this moment in the future—so thank you for sharing this with me!
