Hmm... Yeah, sounds about right. God, kids these days. And the thing is kids spend so much time on Tumblr, reading all the really dumb halfwit social justice blogs who actually think they're making a difference when they're actually just complaining because they can and aren't bringing anything of value or use to the discussions regarding said issues. They end up thinking it's "cool" to have multiple issues, and be victims, because a lot of posts with real victims get tons of notes/popularity.
Wiser and truer words never spoken.
"Complaining because they can."
I've seen many posts of that sort, many blogs who seem to complain about almost any social issue you can imagine, and most often it feels like those people base their thoughts and opinions on half-knowledge.
What I find troubling is that this kind of behaviour makes it really difficult to tell whether someone actually has any of those issues/conditions/characteristics or is just jumping on a band wagon. It puts people who are actually affected/to whom it applies in a bad light, too.
I could go on and on about these things (e.g. genderqueerness; I highly doubt the person who yelled at me for "misgendering" her (oops) yesterday actually understands what that is). They just pick something because it seems edgy and progressive or whatnot and then the whole (virtual) word has to cater to their wishes and demands.
Well, some people just grow up more slowly than others ;)
Dude...I just saw your post regarding the girl who thinks you're being insulting. And you're totally not. Ableism in relation to disability--mental OR physical--in my mind means excessive accommodation. I think, though, that the reason she was offended is because autism, and a lot of other mental disabilities, can be hidden. Because in our society, mental disabilities are not okay. And because they're not okay, they can't be joked about, they can't be treated like any other character trait.
Thank you.
And I get that. Which is why I was trying to explain I how interpret the whole Moon Moon phenomenon in the first place: I never really saw Moon Moon as mentally disabled. I explained that to her. But no matter what I was saying she would not hear it and was getting rude even after I tried to remain calm and polite.
I was just saying to someone else that, after all, Moon Moon is a (fictional!) animal, not even a human. So if the fans' adoration does appear a bit infantilising then it's also completely normal. Show me one pet owner who doesn't do baby talk with their pet. ^^
And since what you are saying is true I find it even more important that we CAN joke about these things (in an adoring and not malicious way - not all jokes are cruel!). Imho you can joke about any type of person or being as long as it's more a laughing WITH them than AT them.
dreamingofblue replied to your post: As you might remember my friend’s boyfriend and I...
Your friend’s boyfriend sounds amazingly nerdtastic!
He iiiisss!! He's pretty cool and watches/reads a lot of cool stuff and talks about it with me so we decided to get his girlfriend into it too.
One day the asshole brought that super old copy of LotR to school and it was so cool. He even goes to convetions and things like that.
Okay I've been tagged twice so here are my answers to both of you.

1. If you had the choice between living underwater or getting a pair of wings that would let you fly, which would you choose?
Wings. I've always wanted to fly.
2. In 24 hours, the world above ground is going to be destroyed. You are allowed to bring one suitcase and one carry-on sized handbag of whatever you want as you move into a subterranean shelter. What would you bring with you?
My laptop and as many books I can can fit into my school bag. (Hint: It's a lot) Also Merry, my stuffed dog.
3. What is your favorite holiday?
Umm... Easter. It's usually around my birthday so a two for one. =)
4. What is your morning routine?
Get woken up by my mother and dog, get up and check my emails while I try to actually wake up. Have breakfast if early enough.
5. Stealing this one from the questions I was asked. All of time and space, everywhere and anywhere, every star that ever was. Where do you want to start?
Hmm... How about at the beginning? Then work my way forward. =D (Or the future. The future seems cool)
6. You have been given unlimited funding to study anything in any country. What do you pick? Why is it interesting to you?
I pick History in England. It's interesting because I enjoy it.
7. Weirdest/spookiest experience of your life.
Oh I don't know. Used to be terrified of what my brother and I thought was a UFO in our back field. I'm told it was actually something to do with sewage. Either way, walking past that was so spooky, especially when it made noises.
8. When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? Did you become what you wanted to be?
I wanted to be many things. I changed my mind often. So far, so good.
9. Tell me a little about the best relationship you have in your life, and the worst relationship you have in your life. What makes them the best and worst?
I have to ...rank my relationships? Worse would probably be my Nana but that's only because it's hard having a relationship with a person whose reality changes day to day. I don't have a best.
10. The book, movie, show, OTP, and musical artist/genre you can’t live without.
Harry Potter, How to Train Your Dragon, Sherlock/Doctor Who, no idea, oh I don't think I would notice if I lost a genre.
11. Are you happy with your life? What are you doing to make it better if you’re not?
Yes.
what-the-heart-believes :
1. Who was your childhood hero? (Real or fictional).
Dr Harry Cooper. He is an aussie vet that had his own t.v show. My brother and I had to be home to watch it no matter what, and I read all his books.
2. Do you prefer coffee or tea?
Tea. Can't stand coffee.
3. What is/was your favourite school subject?
History.
4. What is the funniest thing you’ve heard/seen this week?
Oh, umm. I don't know... Dad watched a nerdfighter video (the bad jokes one) which was fairly funny.
5. What is your favourite animal?
Dog.
6. If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
I'm not sure.... something with animals or reading? Or fire. Fire is pretty.
7. Apart from friends and family, what is the one thing you cannot live without?
Books.
8. What is your favourite song?
At the moment? Do you hear the people sing from Les Misérables.
9. If you could learn any musical instrument what would it be?
Piano.
10. Are you a cat person or a dog person?
Dog person, though I would love a cat.
11. Do you prefer books or films?
The book is usually better but films are still awesome.
Okay, yeah. Not bothering with questions (sorry) as I'm going to go write fic.

ME! Why isn’t it an equal part of this fandom??? I don’t understand, and it frustrates me to no end!
Well, we play a part in that. Fanlore IS a wiki, so it's user-contributed. If we're not putting stuff up there, it's not going to be there. We've got to stand ourselves up and say "HEY! HERE WE ARE!"

Awesome. I'm using the Sherlock/John page as a template for what they're looking for. I've written up the canon part as well as a bit on TPTB commenting on Sherlock/Molly (Yes... ALL THE LOUISE QUOTES.)
I'm currently working on coming up with common elements in the Sherlolly fandom, as well as some more fic, art, etc recommendations.
Honestly, I was thinking of going through what was recommended on those days for Sherlolly week and seeing what was the most common.... Does that sound like a good, fair idea? I don't know.
I hate being sick at home. It makes me very unproductive. Do you like noodles?
Aww poor you. Hope you get well soon!
And do you mean ramen type noodles? I do like them occasionally, but I prefer Italian style pasta.
Hello! Thanks for the follow! Your blog looks so cool! Did you design this yourself?
Thanks for following me back! I felt so awful 'cause I actually maybe sorta accidentally followed you...you know because now they have the plus signs next to any user you're not following.
But then I looked at your blog.AND YOU LIKE WHOWARLOCK
So, basically, best "mistake" I ever made because Doctor Who, Merlin, and Sherlock are my current three favorite TV shows.
And nooo, I didn't. I haven't quite gotten the trick of designing a Tumblr theme just yet. But this lovely person has some amazing ones, including the one I'm currently using. ^_^
