Marcus! Another one with a novel I need to work on at some point. He’s a sandman/dream eater, and is probably my most ridiculously powerful character. He’s Deaf, wears pastels, and drives a seafoam green F-100 from the 50s. He has the personality of a lemon and I love him so much.
I have a new side blog! It is part inspoblog, part eventual process blog for my nanoproject, which is going to be an illustrated novel that I’m planning on self-publishing online.

I’m gonna do Marcus since I’m about to spend 30 days with him for NaNoWriMo. And also both character asks bc I can. (The formatting stole all the numbers and I’m too lazy to put them back in.)
What position does your character sleep in? ( i.e; stomach, side, back, etc. ) Describe why they do this – optional.
This is going to sound like an amazingly bullshit answer but Marcus literally does not sleep. If he does it is because he is too exhausted to function. In which case he’s probably face down in bed and/or in whatever position he passed out in.
Does your character have any noteworthy features? Freckles? Dimples? A scar somewhere unusual? etc.
He has very light eyes that fluctuate between blue, grey, and purple depending on lighting/what he’s wearing. He also has faint freckles.
Does your character have an accent? What does it sound like?
Marcus is Deaf, so. He CAN talk, but he hates doing it and mostly does not. I imagine he has the ASL equivalent of an accent, but I’m not anywhere near good enough at ASL to give a better answer on that.
Do they have any verbal tics? Do they have trouble pronouncing certain words or getting their thoughts across clearly?
See above. I think he probably signs with a lot of big, forceful movements, kind of the signing equivalent of talking over people.
What are their chief tension areas?
Probably his hands. Maybe also his gut.
If you were to pick one song – and only one song – to describe your character, what would it be and why?

How does your character perceive themselves? Positive? Negative? Neutral?
Probably pretty neutrally most of the time. He is, and that’s about as much as he gives thought to himself.
Are they a quick thinker or do they need time to sort through their thoughts?
He’s a very quick thinker. Also very sarcastic.
Does your character dream or are their nights filled with an empty blackness?

HEATHENS. (Public transportation does not exist where he lives. He doesn’t like either. He wants to drive please.)
What’s one experience your character had that made them very afraid?
I’m honestly not sure. Will you take an IOU?
What is your character’s happiest memory?
Meeting his moms for the first time. Close second is the moment when he realized he’d actually succeeded getting an ancient pickup he bought for fifty bucks to run again.
What’s one skill your character really wishes they had?
I honestly can’t think of anything. Marcus is pretty competent at all the things he wants to be competent at and doesn’t really care about the things he isn’t.
What is their favourite food? Their daily diet?
Strawberry milkshakes. He’s a pancakes and burgers kind of guy. Nothing fancy. (Frequently pink and sugary tho.)
Do they like music? If so, what kind of music do they enjoy?
He can’t hear it. He does like anything that has a lot of bass that he can feel though. (Take Marcus to a club and make fun of how stupid everyone looks dancing you’ll both have a great time.)
Do they collect anything/have a collection?
Books, and dreams, and sketch/notebooks, and car things.
Have they ever encountered someone they really wanted to kill?
Roughly half the people he knows.
How do they deal with bullies and people who just won’t leave them alone?
Punch them in the face. Put live bugs in their belongings. Mock them relentlessly. Send them nightmares. The possibilities are endless.
Does your character have any accidents or stunts from the past that they’re extremely embarrassed about or had a funny result? Details please!
Marcus was the kind of child who was born about 40 so he mostly just frowned disapprovingly at other people being dumb.
He probably had some kind of gloriously out of character Evel Knievel stunt with a bicycle when he was a smallish child but I don’t know for sure yet.
Your character has discovered that they only have a week left to live. What do they do with that time?
Step one: Find Death.
Step two: Kick its ass.
Step three: Live forever.
I’m not even kidding he’s actually mostly done this.
Which one do they prefer; knowing when they die or how they die?
I don’t think he’d want to know either actually? Like. Who cares.
How do they spend a rainy day?
Tea, a book, a seat in the window, lots of blankets, and his dog.
Your character is running late but need to grab something to eat. What do they get?
He is going to be even later and probably make waffles or whatever because he is never late he always arrives precisely when he means to and fuck off with your cardboard flavored granola bars or whatever.
If they could have one superpower, what would it be? Choose wisely, it could have drawbacks to them.
I guess he technically already has a superpower? And he would probably keep it instead of have a new one.
Have they ever had to tell someone a lie to protect them? Did they regret doing it or not?
Yes.
He is about to.
What do they do if they have a really bad nightmare?
Eat it.
If the opportunity to join an adventure appears, but for your character to participate the’d need to leave their current life behind without knowing if they’ll ever come back, would they go no matter what? Or would they prefer to stay with their current life?
He would stay, bc his life is pretty great. And he’s the kind of guy you find while trying to complete your adventure, not the kind you take on the adventure, tbh.
Do they have anything that they consider a good luck charm?
Nope.
What’s their favourite physical activity?
Does building an engine count.
Assuming they aren’t one already would your character prefer to be a Vampire, a Werewolf, or a Demon? And no cheating, if they are already one of those they can’t pick the one that they are.
Werewolf.
Does your character like the ocean, or are they more of a land person? Perhaps they prefer specific bodies of water, like ponds and rivers, or specific locations on the land, like forests and mountains?
