Does anyone have a source that it was AMC that decided this and not Rolin himself?
Bc besides of doubting AMC executives have much of a say in his script, i am also pretty sure Rolin didn't want Sam without a role in S2 when he is the other lead of his show.
Remember that originally IWTV was meant to be just one season but bc of the pandemic they needed to split it into 2 seasons bc they couldn't shoot in europe which means Sam either would be in every ep or if there was no dreamstat he would not be in 1 or 2 at most, depending how many eps they intended to made (i dont think AMC would give them more than 10), so this perception some people in this fandom seems to have conceived that Rolin wouldn't have the other lead in S2 is quite stupid when he keeps saying that different from the books this is the loustat show so the show will always revolve around Louis and Lestat.
Not gonna lie, i think them splitting the 1st book into 2 seasons was a double-edged sword and messed Rolin’s original plan bc for many viewers who haven’t read the books seeing Lestat in only a few scenes during the S2 created the false impression that he wasn’t a main character and that this show have rotative leads each season (like, i saw so many people believing armand was the other lead in S2 when it was never the case. louis and lestat will always be the main characters of this show)
Another thing, since Sam is a bookstan i confess i dont get his initial opposition to dreamstat when that idea came from a sentence in the book where it was mentioned louis was seeing/hallucinating lestat everywhere in paris so dreamstat is basically canonical in the books too.
This was actually what I was alluding to in my response— people keep saying that it was AMC’s decision to make dreams that so heavily present it could just have easily have been Rolin’s. I say we just say we’re not sure and keep it moving.
