((Okay, pretty sure no one cares, but I really want to share my Firefly AU ideas. Keep in mind I was going by personality first, and everything actually just fit together freakin well. TW: SAMMY POSTED DOODLES BELOW no, kidding, even if you entirely skip over the writing stuff, I kind of want you to peek at the drawings because I was laughing for like three hours over them))
Just so you know, this is not unlike space cowboys. At all. And I'm not fully through with the series, but I should be today.
So, I'm going to start with brief character description to help out. You have Captain Malcolm Reynolds, who was an Independence fighter in the war, and captain of a Firefly class spaceship named Serenity (it's called Firefly because it shoots gold stuff out its butt sometimes). Now, he's a smuggler. His personality reminded me so much of Trip it wasn't even funny, so there's them.
Then there's the first officer, who fought with Mal in the war. Her name is Zoey Warren, and after the war, she and Mal stayed really good friends and he hired her aboard Serenity. This one made me think of Drift, so... there she is.
Along their travels, they met this guy Hoban Washburne, Wash for short. He's a navigator who falls in love with Zoey, and they get married. Also, his personality reminded me a lot of Laxy, so that was convenient.
Then there's the hit/gunman, Jayne Cobb, who isn't too bright but is a heck of a fighter. I made him Ryder in the AU, even though Ryder is smarter than Jayne.
There's also their engineer, a young girl named Kaywinnet Lee Frye, but they call her Kaylee. She kind of just... senses machines and can fix them, and I made her Genius Emma because that made sense to me.
And then there's Inara Serra, who has an interesting line of work. She's a 'companion,' but is more or less a... uh... hired pretty face. She worked in the higher end of society, goes to parties with people, and occasionally sleeps with them. She's professional, it's a real job they have, and Malcolm hired her aboard Serenity as a sort of... ambassador for the higher class, help him get more smuggling work. These two don't always see eye to eye, but there's been hints that Inara really likes Mal. I honestly don't even know who to make Inara in this AU, though.
Now, the next few were just supposed to be passengers, but ended up hired crew.
First is Simon and River Tam, brother and sister, and both very young. Simon is a doctor, and River is a super genius who was sent to a special school that screwed with her brain, so Simon is trying to find out what's wrong. He's super protective over her, and they reminded me of Ben and Pocky. In the AU, Pocky was sent to an academy that was supposed to help figure out what was wrong with her genetically to make her so small, but Ben figured out there was something wrong with letters she was sending back to him and broke her out and smuggled her aboard the Serenity. They were discovered and the Captain agreed to help them out.
This next one I've had a bit of trouble with. He's a preacher (a Shepherd, as they're called) and his name is Book, Shepherd Book. He and the Captain don't get along very well, because Malcolm is strongly against God. They do work together just fine, though. I made Kahlo the Shepherd because she's so self-righteous and isn't too fond of Trip's lying and stuff.
