Salt cap on the top, to help prevent molding. I didn't use that flaky pink salt for the main salt in here, but it did seem like the best form we had to spread around the top.

That's topped off with some plastic wrap laid onto the surface, then I did go with a baggie of sanitized marbles and table salt for a weight.

Cooking advice needed

Do split peas substitute well for whole dried peas? I have a family of picky eaters, so I’m reluctant to just try and see how it goes.

I got a dirt cheap bag of dried whole green peas in March (when I was stocking up on pulses in case getting food got harder), and I have since found a bag at the local Middle Eastern store, but I don’t go to that store often, and I can’t find any anywhere else.

I was going on a long walk through a seemingly never ending university campus. Occasionally I would stop at a farmers market to buy food to keep on walking. The currency was dried beans.

Eventually I came to another market where the currency was peas instead of beans. When I asked the exchange rate between peas and beans, everyone was vague and evasive which led me to suspect they were actually fairies. I had already taken one of the dried peas, but I argued that since they just put it into my hand then it shouldn't count as me 'taking' it.
