Our beloved @driftingmoonmenace is under the weather right now and deserves lots of love and affection! So first, if you've got the time, stop on by and send Menace lots of love because that's what they deserve!
Menace, I wrote you a little something goofy in the hopes of lightening your mood because being sick is not fun for anyone and I wanted to give you something cheerful! I hope you enjoy and feel better soon!
The new Kid's Cove toys were an absolute menace, Sun thought to himself as he pulled yet another of the foam pirate swords out of the ball pit and added it to the growing pile at his feet. Like any new toy introduced at Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizza Plex, the children had gone absolutely rabid over the most recent over-priced commodity up for grabs in the gift shop and parents were all too happy to purchase the item if it stopped the incessant whining for even the briefest of moments.
The daycare had been in absolute chaos that day, children violently hitting and jabbing each other with the foam swords that still very much hurt when being slapped in the face at full speed. Truly, an awful addition to merchandising. Had management not given any forethought to what it would be like for him to try to wrangle a bunch of already unruly four and five year olds hopped up on Fizzy Faz and armed with a toy that could only be perceived as a weapon?
A slight grumble of frustration escaped his voice box as he thought about how the next day would likely mirror the stressful one he'd just managed his way through.
Then he felt a poke on his back, larger than a human finger and an unfamiliar texture at that. He craned his head backward to see you standing some feet behind him, arm extended and one of those accursed foam swords in hand. “Sunbeam, what are you doing?”
“En garde!” You chirped playfully which only deepened the confusion setting in on his brow.
He turned to face you, head cocked to the side as he took in the sight of you doing your best to hold what he could only assume was a proper sword fighting stance. The expression on your face was one of mirth; a wide, cocky smirk and gaze narrowed at him in determination. “Sunbe-”
“En garde!” You repeated, poking him in the chest this time and when you received no immediate response you sighed and dropped your arms at your side. “It means on your guard. Come on, Sunny! Fight me!”
A light chuckle settled into him and he eyed you up and down. “Oh, don't be silly, Sunbeam! There's much too much work left for me to do! Besides, these toys aren't exactly safe despite their spongy material.”
“Ah, a coward ye be then!” Your voice boomed back in a poor imitation of a pirate's accent. You lifted your foam weapon in hand and pointed it at him again. “Argh, arm yerself or perish!”
“Sunbeam-” BONK
It happened so fast he'd nearly missed the swing, but you'd hit him. You'd hit him smack dab in the middle of his face plate and you hadn't even hesitated. He blinked at you, two glowing white pupils burning down at you in disbelief.
“Sunbeam, did you just... hit me?”
“Aye, and I be doin' it again!” A much worse accent this time as you lifted the weapon from his face and thrust it toward his abdomen.
He was able to dodge that attempt, sidestepping and nearly losing his footing at the edge if the ball pit. He recovered from the near fall only to be met with another wild swing from you in his direction. That one hit his arm, a painless blow, but it did serve to irritate him slightly. “I-I don't even have anything to defend myself with!”
“That's why I said en garde...” You replied with a laugh that dropped the silly accent.
Then before he could blink he found you scooping up one of the many foam swords from the floor to send it flying in his direction. He caught it midair and looked at it in quasi-confusion before he saw you rushing at him. He threw up the foam weapon in his hand to block your swipe and he successfully thwarted your strike. But you kept coming and coming, the grin on your face widening to a point he thought you might actually strain your face muscles.
A hearty laugh rose up from deep within you as you continued to charge at him, swinging to strike and being blocked each and every time. His frustration with the initial onslaught fell away when he saw just how much fun you were having with those silly foam swords and he had to admit, he was having a bit of fun himself.
He allowed himself a few offensive swipes at you, though he was truly afraid to actually make any contact. The last thing he wanted was to hurt you. So he stayed on the defense for the most part, traversing the entire floor of the daycare with you in toe, foam blades clashing over and over.
Once again he found himself backed against the edge of the ball pit and you were standing before him, weapon held high over your head as you swung it toward him. He could block it easily, you were beginning to tire and your body had slowed while his robotic one was still ticking strong. But rather than block your hit he took the chance to swipe at your middle, foam sword barely grazing across your navel but the way you reacted was as if he'd struck a powerful and damaging blow.
You stumbled backward, hands loosening their grip on the sword in favor of clutching your gut. He immediately discarded his weapon and reached out for you, fear and concern that he'd seriously hurt you taking over every part of him. “Sunbeam! I-I'm so sorry! Are you okay!?”
“Y-you got me, Sunny. I... I think it's curtains for me, doll.” You squeaked out in another bizarre accent and he realized almost instantly that this was part if whatever game you'd successfully goaded him into.
Okay, maybe he'd play along just a bit longer...
“Oh Sunbeam! I'm sorry!” He mustered in his most theatrical voice. “I never meant to hurt you!”
“You must... go on, Sunny.” You continued, forcing a rasping groan into your voice. Your hands flew from your stomach to his body where they found purchase on his back and neck, respectively. You clung to him and let your body go limp and he did his best to support you as he eased you carefully down to the floor. “Don't let my death b-be in vain. You must... w-win this war without me.”
“I'm confused, Sunbeam. Didn't I just deal the fatal blow? Wouldn't that make us enemies?”
“I was a spy for the enemy nation but I became a turncoat when I fell in love with you... or something like that, I dunno. Just roll with it.” You whispered as though there was anyone else around to hear the conversation. Then you resumed your strange accent and pulled him down closer to you. “T-tell the world of our love, Sunny. Tell them m-my love for you will n-never die...”
Then your eyes closed and your mouth hung open, tongue extended to emphasize your “death.”
Just as quickly as you “died” you opened your eyes back up and beamed at him with a bright smile and a soft laugh. Your cheeks were tinted with a heavy blush and your chest was heaving for air as though that little performance had taken all the wind from you.
He was supported over you on his hands and knees, staring down at you from where you were caged beneath him. He noticed that he himself felt out of breath which was particularly strange considering he had no lungs or need for air... yet the room seemed to be spinning and there was something somewhat hazy about his vision as he stared down at that blissful face of yours.
“That was fun. Thanks for playing along.” You spoke sweetly, settling a bit into the colorful padded flooring beneath you as you blinked up at him. “Maybe I'll win next time.”
“N-next time?” He dribbled out, reality cruelly reminding him that this pleasant little exchange had all come about because of a game you'd wanted to play with those silly foam swords. “Y-yeah. Next time.”
“Oh! And next time you can be the enemy spy and I'll be the devastated countryman who has to kill my lover regardless of my feelings!” You chirped excitedly. “Or we could do the Three Musketeers thing! Or the pirate thing, even though that might be stepping on Foxy's toes a bit! Or! Or something else entirely! Doesn't matter as long as we have fun! I mean... I get the feeling we'll be dealing with these foam swords for a while 'til the next big toy release. We might as well have some fun with it while it lasts, right?”
“R-right.” Sun stared down at you, excitement shining on your every feature as your hands moved from his body to wave enthusiastically as you spoke. His already wide smile stretched wider and he saw just how alight you seemed to be as he pulled you to your feet and you continued to chat away about all the fun ways you two could utilize the new toys that he was lamenting over not only moments earlier.
Maybe those foam swords really weren't such an absolute menace after all...
