So since I’ve never told it to any of the internet before- aside from social media profiles that ask for it. My birthday is May 24th. And I never had an official drink.
Being raised a Hispanic Catholic I was allowed to during communion and at parties to have sips, and when you are 8 the smell is not particularly appetizing.
Needless to say, when we became christians it was never much of an issue- sure I was really keen on finding a way to make virgin jello shots- because seriously they look amazing
- but I was young, and was mature enough to know that needed to wait my turn. But then I turn 21 last year.
There is every color of Christian in the rainbow, and the church that I am affiliated with doesn’t encourage the consumption of any alcohol - unless it’s used in cooking (cooking with booze is ameehzing)- at one conference they said it was like testing the devil, comparing it to the kissing a married woman and saying “Hey at least I didn’t sleep with her”
I agreed at the time. But now I am not so sure. Like I said in my previous post my parents are learning the messianic roots, which is basically teachings from the bible using the original Hebrew and relating it to Jewish customs.
Messianic Jews and Gentiles drink. They see it as Jesus’( or Yeshua’s ) first miracle, WHICH IT WAS. But on the other hand Christians say that it probably wouldn’t be considered alcohol today- which can’t be true because anything that is fermented properly is, you guessed it, ALCOHOL. Plus if you read the bible the wedding party said it tasted better than the wine they had already run out of! (John 2:1-11)
Being my ENFJ self, I could easily hear someone saying that maybe the wedding party was drunk and just thought it tasted better.
If you looking into Jewish customs and scripture its a sin to be drunk, not to drink, and from that you can conclude that Jesus, being raised in this culture, drank wine and was still considered blameless enough to die on the cross and pay for our sins.
Now like I said at the begging I hadn’t every had more than a sip until this year. Now- 3 months way from my 22nd birthday-
I have had no more than 2.5 oz. on 6 different occasions
You could say i am getting pretty turnt! *smiles stupidly at herself*
