I’ve been trying out they/them pronouns because she/he don’t feel completely right.
I grew up being told I should have been the boy in the fam because my brothers were “soft” and didn’t like getting dirty (that has since changed - on all sides), and I’d be willing to help in the garden and all that. Also because mum used to lump me in with them either way - “I have three sons”.
This has never bothered me.
I was also told that because I was a girl that I needed to do the housework and clean and shit. Typical older wog mentality but it v much would piss me off. I’d be pressured to wear skirts and dresses and often told to get used to wearing make up.
I’ve never really felt comfortable in dresses and the like. And whilst I like doing my make up it’s literally only done for me and v seldomly because of it. And it’s never the more natural looks.
There’s a bit of body dysmorphia as well, but nothing drastic. I don’t think I care about my appearance enough for it to be a genuine problem. I just flip flop between, for example, liking my boobs and wanting them ripped off. I think I’d prefer if they were an accessory.
My problem is that I’m a creature of habit and breaking the she/her habit has been difficult. I feel fake. And it probably hurts that I’ve not changed how I refer to myself at work (I’m starting to now, but the past 6+ months haven’t been helping). So I’ve been having to do a lot of thinking instead of just speaking and it makes me flustered.
I would prefer they/them because it feels like less expectation before people meet me or get to know me. It also helps me feel like I don’t have to be the expectations others would put on me. I know I don’t anyway, but i like having language back me up. There’s also a part of me that’s like “I don’t feel the need to be put in a box” but people have taken that to mean that they still can. So this is me putting myself into a non-binary box so they don’t need to assume.
My fambam took me wanting to be called ommer really well. So I was thinking of broadening my sphere of gender affirmation to a few people at work.
Dad and my bros have made it clear how they feel about it, so I’ll leave them all till last.
But it would be nice to not have to over think it all the time.
It’s the invasion day long weekend and imma see my fambam
so uh
im going to be a ommer
1st fam pic! 😍
