Title: Drone Hunter
“Composite depicting a futuristic drone hunter concept.
Wanted to make something lowkey cyperpunk and was inspired by existing anti-drone technology like the HP47 UAV Jammer and Batelle DroneDefender.
Opted for an AK (SVD) base instead of an AR-15 platform.”

The world's third busiest airport has been closed three times this year by drones. Now Dubai airport is fighting back with a drone hunter.
Drone Hunter is another Dumbass method to keep the Peace
A wise Sage once told me that there is a Dickhead born every minute and apparently there are more of them to be found in Dubai than anywhere else.
These Dickheads have taken the liberty to fly their consumer drones alongside their much larger counterparts found in the Dubai Airport. Now, the drones are not there to spy on the latest Duty Free offers at DFS, they apparently fly around airports to show that they can.
Look, we know you like to do things for kicks. Dubai is positively boring unless you like toasting bread in the mid day sun. The desert is only a tad more interesting with odd camel you meet along the dunes. And to add to their warp sense of humor, they built a ski slope in the city for you to escape from the heat.
So what’s attractive about Dubai airport? I have no idea. Nor are they interested in flying around in the day time as the weather gets so hot that you could end up cooking a Phantom 4 before it has time to land for a recharge. So the real threat are drone hobbyist who fly during the night.
So enter the Drone Hunter, except that it just doesn’t seem to be all that difficult to circumvent. First, a human counterpart has to launch this, maybe out of boredom. Then you have to decide on the right direction to fly as it isn’t psychic.
Apparently the thought of finding a wayward drone floating about near the airport by chance is rare so an early warning system that detects and launches the Drone Hunter automatically would be an absolute must. So low level radar must be implemented for this to work. But then you have the problem of having the Drone Hunter pose as a hazard to landing aircraft when they are on their hunting duties…. which to me is no different than having unwanted drones drifting near the tarmac.
Let’s assume at this stage the Drone Hunter is in the air, with two cameras, one thermal and the other a IR cam, the Drone Hunter then detects a rogue drone flying nearby the airport, follows it and wire backs GPS information of the drone pilot to the cops who will later rush out in their Ferraris or Posrches to apprehend the suspect.
Well, cops in Dubai drive fast cars might get there pretty quick but the whole system seems a tad slow when a drone pilot see a drone hunter in the distance tracking the very drone you are flying and before it sends your GPS location to the cops, you could jump into your very own Ferrari and speed off into the desert with the cops arriving to find your dust trail.
Now I am not saying that the majority of Dubai residents have a Ferrari. Quite on the contrary, but they all drive fast cars. How else can you escape from the desert heat if you don’t drive quickly from one shopping mall to the next?
That said, the Dubai Drone Hunter is still under review so Dickheads can still fly uncontested around the airport.
Now, let’s be clear on one thing. Consumer drones the size of a DJI Phantom cannot bring down a Jumbo Jet. If they could, ISIL terrorist would have started to use them at Heathrow Airport and scoring targets on the cheap. Instead Heathrow Flight controllers fear birds like seagull and crows more than drones.
But I do suspect that the Dubai airport fears other things, like a pilot with the intelligence of a goat who being startled by a drone approaching his jumbo jet and with knee jerk reflexes makes an obstacle avoiding maneuver which takes out the Flight Control Tower in the process.
Dubai airport can’t possibly hire Bald Eagles and train them to take down a drone like the Dutch do as the raptors have poor night vision to be any use.
To sum up, we can only reckon what airports can do with wayward drones. Ignore them.
